RESOLUTION <br />. WHEREAS " The General" , a mighty white oak tree which shaded <br />General Lee in the summer of 1865 and was a seedling at the time <br />of the founding of Jamestown in 16011; and <br />WHEREAS this tree was reduced to a stump after being hit by <br />lightning in 1972; and <br />WHEREAS the " Lee Oak" has been planted as a replacement <br />for the 100 year old tree by the Lee -Jackson Foundation on <br />May 5, 1982 in Lee Park in Charlottesville, Virginia; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the City <br />of Charlottesville, Virginia that we hereby accept this gift that <br />will grace Lee Park for generations to come. <br />ATTESTE: <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL <br />is <br />ADOPTED BY COUNCIL <br />MAY 17, 1982 <br />
