r, <br />U <br />L <br />RESOLUTION <br />WHEREAS, in 1963 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. had a <br />dream which inspired his struggle to gain dignity and <br />economic justice for all people, binding them in peace <br />and freedom; and <br />WHEREAS, there remains tragic unemployment and an <br />escalating arms race, the denial of basic rights to <br />minorities, the unemployed, women and the economically <br />disadvantaged. <br />THEREFORE, be it resolved by the City Council of <br />Charlottesville, Virginia, that we ask for a renewal of <br />the ideals of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and support <br />efforts in the United States Congress and in the Virginia <br />General Assembly to enact legislation designating January 13th <br />as a Federal and State holiday in honor of Dr. Martin Luther <br />King, Jr. <br />Approved by Council <br />August 15, 1983 <br />rk of Council <br />
