• RESOLUTION <br />WHEREAS, the City of Charlottesville, the County of Albemarle <br />and the University of Virginia formed a Joint Transportation <br />Committee to work cooperatively with the Virginia Department of <br />Transportation to find solutions to the community's transportation <br />concerns; and <br />WHEREAS, one of the primary transportation concerns has been how <br />to move traffic efficiently and safely through the 29 North Corridor; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, one possible solution which has been proposed is an <br />expressway concept that would serve both local and through traffic in <br />a single corridor and, if determined to be feasible, to compare a <br />single corridor facility with dual corridor facilities; and <br />WHEREAS, the City, County and University have endorsed the <br />study of this expressway concept but not its construction and received <br />assurances from the Virginia Department of Transportation that it would <br />study the concept; and <br />WHEREAS, the Virginia Department of Transportation has now <br />studied the expressway concept and found it to be feasible; and <br />WHEREAS, no comparative analysis has been made among the <br />various facility alternatives available to move traffic in the north - <br />south corridor through Charlottesville -Albemarle, including the <br />expressway concept; and <br />WHEREAS, such a comparative analysis of all alternatives seems <br />appropriate and essential to the decision process for the Route 29 <br />North corridor improvements; and <br />WHEREAS, the Virginia Department of Transportation proposes <br />to employ a consultant to make the required alternative facility <br />comparison, <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City <br />of Charlottesville and the Board of Supervisors of Albemarle County <br />that the Joint Transportation Committee convey to Commissioner Pethtel <br />of the Virginia Department of Transportation the concerns of this <br />. community regarding the need for a comparative analysis of the <br />expressway concept in the consultants' report and, <br />
