0 <br />0 <br />RESOLUTION <br />REQUESTING THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY TO ENACT <br />A COVERED -TRUCK LAW <br />WHEREAS, the transportation of materials such as dirt, sand, <br />gravel, rocks, garbage or any other material likely to be blown, <br />dropped, spilled, or leaked onto the public roadways in trucks <br />which are not covered is hazardous to the public safety; and <br />WHEREAS, legislation which requires trucks carrying such <br />materials to be covered would prevent damage to the vehicles of <br />passing motorists and prevent substantial litter on the public <br />roadways; now, therefore <br />BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Charlottes- <br />ville, Virginia, requests the General Assembly of Virginia to <br />enact legislation which would require trucks transporting such <br />materials to cover the trucks in such a way that will prevent the <br />materials from being blown, dropped, spilled or leaked onto the <br />public roadways, with appropriate exemptions for trucks spreading <br />materials during the course of snow removal, maintenance or <br />construction of public roadways. <br />Approved by Council <br />December 21, 1987 <br />C erk of Council <br />87-6-70 <br />
