• RESOLUTION <br />AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO APPLY <br />ON BEHALF OF THE CITY FOR A RECYCLING GRANT <br />FROM THE VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF WASTE MANAGEMENT. <br />WHEREAS, there is a demonstrated need for the City to reduce <br />the amount of refuse taken to the Ivy Landfill; and <br />WHEREAS, the Solid Waste Task Force has preliminarily <br />recommended recycling to reduce the amount of commercial and <br />residential refuse for disposal, and the Commonwealth of Virginia <br />has mandated localities to achieve a recycling rate of 10% by July, <br />1991; and <br />WHEREAS, the Virginia Department of Waste Management has made <br />available a grant (Recycling Demonstration Grant) in the amount of <br />$40,000, with no local match required, to implement recycling <br />programs which will assist localities in achieving the projected <br />recycling rate; and <br />WHEREAS, the County of Albemarle has expressed a desire to <br />join in the application for such grant, with the City being the <br />fiscal agent; now, therefore, <br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville, <br />• Virginia, that the City supports a joint application with the <br />County of Albemarle for a Recycling Demonstration Grant in the <br />amount of $40,000, and authorizes the City Manager to take whatever <br />steps necessary to apply for such grant, with or without the County <br />as a co -applicant, on or before the application deadline. <br />Approved by Council <br />September 5, 1989 <br />C erk of Council <br />Ll <br />
