CHARLOTTESVILLE'S DRUG ADVISORY BOARD <br />• MISSION STATEMENT <br />The Drug Advisory Board (DAB) will advise the Charlottesville City <br />Council on ways to reduce the sale and use of illegal drugs in our <br />community and to minimize the impact of these drugs on our citizens and our <br />neighborhoods. <br />In order to achieve this goal, the Council requests the DAB to recom- <br />mend, review, and provide advice on the following: <br />1) methods of evaluating the various anti-drug programs; <br />2) the current availability of community services which <br />address the drug problem; <br />3) the existence of gaps in anti-drug programs which <br />address prevention, education, law enforcement and <br />treatment; <br />4) ways to build on and expand community involvement; <br />5) new anti-drug initiatives which should be considered; <br />6) components needed in a comprehensive anti-drug effort; <br />7) means to eliminate the fear caused by drug dealing <br />activities and create safer neighborhoods; <br />8) ways to strengthen existing anti-drug programs; <br />9) needed financial resources. <br />• DRUG COORDINATOR - POSITION DESCRIPTION <br />The Drug Coordinator, under the general supervision of the City <br />Manager, is responsible for: <br />1. identifying where gaps exist in the drug control system; <br />2. identifying unnecessary duplication in services; <br />3. directing a program evaluation process; <br />4. providing data about availability, accessibility, and <br />affordability of drug-related services; <br />5. acting as staff to the Drug Advisory Board; <br />6. developing a community -wide "drug clearinghouse" for <br />information and activities; <br />7. coordinating community -wide anti-drug education efforts; <br />8. speaking engagements for DAB and Council members; <br />9. identifying potential sources for additional anti-drug <br />resources; <br />10. conducting interdisciplinary meetings with community <br />professionals and interested groups/individuals; <br />11. maintaining contact with community persons; <br />12. recommending where anti-drug programs need to be <br />initiated, modified, or maintained; <br />13. monitoring all anti-drug activities provided in the City <br />during the stages of planning, implementation, and <br />evaluation; <br />. 14. reviewing City -based anti-drug grant applications for <br />comprehensiveness and their relationship to City anti- <br />drug efforts; <br />15. assisting citizen anti -drug -efforts. <br />Approved by Council <br />October 15, 1990 r< Ot Ulty oun i <br />
