RESOLUTION SUPPORTING DESIGNATION OF <br />THOMAS JEFFERSON PLANNING DISTRICT <br />AS REGIONAL PLANNING BODY <br />FOR THE PURPOSE OF DEVELOPING SOLID WASTE MANAGEMENT PLAN <br />Whereas, the State Department of Waste Management is requiring <br />each city, county, town, designated region, planning district <br />or service authority to submit a Solid Waste Management Plan by <br />July 1, 1991; and <br />Whereas, the member governments of the Thomas Jefferson <br />Planning District Commission have a history of cooperation on <br />solid waste issues as well as on environmental and related <br />matters; and <br />Whereas, there are mutual solid waste management interests and <br />needs among the jurisdictions within the Thomas Jefferson <br />Planning District; and <br />• Whereas, there exists for the Thomas Jefferson Planning <br />District a data base of information on solid waste and other <br />related data needed for solid waste management planning; and <br />+ Whereas, the Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission is <br />capable under the Virginia Area Development Act of acting as <br />the regional planning body for the governments within its <br />boundaries; <br />Therefore be it resolved that, the governing bodies designated <br />below do hereby request of the Director of the Virginia <br />Department of Waste Management designation of the Thomas <br />Jefferson Planning District as the regional planning body for <br />the purpose of developing a regional solid waste management <br />plan. <br />County of Albemarle <br />Date <br />Town of Columbia <br />• <br />Date <br />City of Charlottesville <br />Date <br />County of Fluvanna <br />Date <br />1 <br />
