• RESOLUTION <br />DECLINING TO ENDORSE LEGISLATION <br />TO GRANT A TAX EXEMPTION FOR THE <br />AIDS SUPPORT GROUP, INC. <br />WHEREAS, the AIDS Support Group, Inc. has asked this Council <br />to endorse an amendment to Title 58.1 of the Code of Virginia <br />granting an exemption from certain state and local taxes on <br />property owned by the AIDS Support Group; and <br />WHEREAS, the AIDS Support Group is a nonprofit corporation <br />organized to provide support to AIDS victims and HIV-positive <br />persons; and <br />WHEREAS, this Council has considered whether the property of <br />the AIDS Support Group should be exempt from taxation, after a <br />public hearing duly advertised as required by §30-19.04 of the <br />Virginia Code, held on December 21, 1992; and examined and <br />considered the provisions of §30-19.04(B) of the Virginia Code; and <br />WHEREAS, this Council passed a resolution on December 19, <br />1988, declaring that it will not support property tax exemptions in <br />the future because it is a form of subsidy and Council preferred to <br />process all subsidies through the annual budget process; <br />• NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of <br />Charlottesville that the Council hereby declines to endorse, <br />support and approve the adoption of an amendment to Title 58.1 of <br />the Code of Virginia exempting certain property owned by the AIDS <br />Support Group from state and local taxation. <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of this Council is <br />directed to conveyed certified copies of this Resolution to the <br />members of the General Assembly representing the City. <br />Approved by Council <br />December 21, 1992 <br />k of City Council <br />• <br />
