• RESOLUTION <br />WHEREAS, August 28, 1993 marks the 30th anniversary of <br />the historic civil rights march on Washington, D. C., led by <br />Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and attended by more than 250,000 <br />people; and <br />WHEREAS, the march was held to protest racism, violence <br />and poverty, and to demand jobs and freedom; and <br />WHEREAS, millions of Americans have continued Dr. King's <br />quest for freedom, equality and the elimination of poverty <br />for all people; and <br />• WHEREAS, a march is again being held in support of jobs, <br />justice and peace; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of <br />Charlottesville, hereby encourages local citizens to attend <br />the August 28th march on Washington, D. C. or to otherwise <br />support efforts to eliminate racial discrimination and <br />poverty and to improve the quality of life for all citizens. <br />Approved by Council <br />August 16, 1993 <br />off C y Council <br />• <br />
