PROCLAMATION <br />U <br />WHEREAS, the arts and humanities enhance and enrich the lives of all Americans; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, the arts and humanities affect every, aspect of life in America today <br />including the economy, social problem solving, job creation, education, creativity, and <br />community livability; and <br />WHEREAS, local arts agencies across America have joined with the National <br />Assembly of Local Arta Agencies (NALAA), National Assembly of State Arts Agencies and <br />a coalition of over fifty national arts and humanities organizations representing over 25,000 <br />cultural organizations to form the National Cultural Alliance to develop a multi-year public <br />awareness campaign on the availability and importance of the humanities and arts to all <br />Americans; and <br />WHEREAS, the campaign and its theme, "The Arts and Humanities. There's <br />Something In It For You," was introduced to the public in the Fall of 1995 and will be <br />Ongoing for three years; and <br />WHEREAS, the nation's 23,000 cultural organizations, the National Endowment <br />for the Arta, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the nation's 5,800 local arts <br />agencies, the arts and humanities councils of the 56 states in U.S. jurisdictions, and the <br />President of the United States will be encouraged to participate in ibis celebration and in the <br />public awareness campaign, <br />NOW, THEREFORE, I, David J. Toscano, Mayor of the City, of Charlottesville, <br />Virginia, do hereby proclaim the month of October 1994 am; ARTS AND HUMANITIES <br />MONTH in Charlottesville and urge our citizens to participate in local arts activities. <br />• <br />Signed and sealed ibis 5rd day of October, 1994. <br />David J.
