0 <br />• <br />CITY MANAGER'S <br />EMPLOYMENT AGREEMENT <br />(beginning July 1, 1993) <br />THIS AGREEMENT, made and entered into this 1st day of July, <br />1993, by and between the Council of the City of Charlottesville, <br />Virginia, a municipal corporation, hereinafter called City Council, <br />as party of the first part, and Cole Hendrix, hereinafter called <br />Manager, as party of the second part, both of whom understand as <br />follows: <br />WITNESSETH: <br />WHEREAS, the City Council desires to employ the services of <br />Cole Hendrix as its City Manager as provided by the City Charter <br />and Code; and <br />WHEREAS, it is the desire of the City Council to provide <br />certain benefits, establish certain conditions of employment and to <br />set working conditions of said employee; and <br />WHEREAS, it is the desire of the City Council (1) to retain <br />the services of the Manager and to provide inducement for him to <br />remain in the City's employment, (2) to make possible full work <br />productivity by assuring the Manager's morale and peace of mind <br />with respect to future security, and (3) to provide a just means <br />for terminating the Manager's employment when City Council may <br />desire to do so; and <br />WHEREAS, the Manager desires to continue employment as City <br />Manager of Charlottesville; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, in consideration of the mutual covenants <br />described below, the parties agree as follows: <br />SECTION 1. EMPLOYMENT <br />City Council hereby agrees to contin <br />as City Manager to perform the function <br />the City Charter and Code of the City of <br />and to perform other legally permissib <br />functions that the Council shall assign <br />SECTION 2. INITIAL TERM AND RENEWALS <br />ue to employ Cole Hendrix <br />s and duties specified in <br />Charlottesville, Virginia <br />le and proper duties and <br />from time to time. <br />A. The initial term of this agreement shall be one year <br />beginning July 1, 1993. <br />B. This agreement shall be renewed for additional one year <br />terms beginning July 1, 1994 and each July 1 thereafter, unless <br />City Council notifies the Manager in writing on or before the April <br />15th immediately prior to the beginning of the next term that <br />
