• RESOLUTION SUPPORTING LEGISLATION <br />ENABLING CREATION OF <br />HISTORIC DISTRICT ENTERPRISE ZONES <br />WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Virginia is home to numerous historic <br />districts which uniquely symbolize the life, history and commerce of each individual <br />County or City in which they are located; and <br />WHEREAS, said historic districts are also home to properties and businesses <br />which are under architectural and use restrictions, promulgated by local jurisdictions <br />pursuant to Section 15.2-2201, et seq. of the Virginia Code; <br />WHEREAS, the continued economic survival and flourishing of said properties <br />and businesses is significant both to the preservation of history in the Commonwealth and <br />the sustaining of economic opportunity; and <br />WHEREAS, it is appropriate that the Commonwealth allow local jurisdictions to <br />pass ordinances designating "historic district enterprise zones" within a historic district; <br />and <br />WHEREAS, it is appropriate that the Commonwealth extend tax relief to <br />10 property owners and businesses which preserve the historic character of neighborhoods <br />by maintaining or creating businesses or properties which are consistent with "old and <br />historic' standards; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED that the Charlottesville City Council <br />supports legislation that would enable local jurisdictions to create historic district <br />enterprise zones, for the purpose of establishing eligibility of property owners and <br />businesses within that zone for state tax credits. <br />Approved by Council <br />December 6, 1999 <br />C e k of City Council <br />
