RESOLUTION <br />• WHEREAS, the Virginia General Assembly enacted the Comprehensive Community <br />Corrections Act on September 30, 1994 establishing community criminal justice boards for <br />participating localities; and <br />WHEREAS, the Counties of Albemarle, Fluvanna, Goochland, Greene, Louisa, <br />Madison, Nelson, Orange and the City of Charlottesville elected to form and appoint members to <br />the Thomas Jefferson Community Criminal Justice Board; and <br />WHEREAS, Virginia Code Section 53.1-183 sets forth the mandatory composition of <br />the membership on these criminal justice boards; and <br />WHEREAS, the Virginia General Assembly, during its 2000 session, amended Virginia <br />Code 53.1-183 to include "a member of each governing body or a city or county manager, <br />county administrator or executive, or assistance or deputy appointed by the governing body"; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Charlottesville agrees to: <br />Continue participation on the Thomas Jefferson Community Criminal Justice <br />Board, and <br />2. Appoint J. Blake Caravati, a member of City Council, to fulfill this legislative <br />• requirement. <br />Approved by City Council on September 5, 2000. <br />Cler Council <br />0 <br />
