Materials and Features Use materials, windows, doors, architecture detailing, roofs, and colors that are compatible with historic buildings in the district. G. Attachment to Existing Building Whenever possible, new additions or alterations to existing buildings should be done in such a manner that, if such additions or alterations were to be removed in the future, the essential form and integrity of the building would be unimpaired. Therefore, the new design should not use the same wall plane, roofline, or cornice line of the existing structure. Entrance Corridors Design Review Guidelines Site Elements The relationship between a building and its site, landscape features, outbuildings, • and other elements with the property boundary all contribute to a districts overall image. Site features should be considered an important part of any project to be reviewed by the Planning Commission. In reviewing site -by -site cases the Commission should continually consider the context of the entire district. Elements in public ownership, such as sidewalks, streets, plantings, street furniture, and street lighting also contribute to the character of the district. A. Plantings 1. Use trees and plants that are traditional or indigenous to the area. 2. Encourage the maintenance and planting of large trees on private property along the street fronts, which contribute to an "avenue". 3. Keeps trees and shrubs healthy. 4. Replace diseased or dead plants with like or similar species if appropriate. 5. Avoid removing live trees or shrubs when possible. 6.
