RESOLUTION OF SUPPORT <br />Application for TEA Grant <br />McIntire Park Bike/Pedestrian Bridge Over Railroad <br />Whereas, the Charlottesville City Council supports bicycle and pedestrian modes of <br />travel in the Thomas Jefferson Planning District area; and <br />N <br />Whereas, the City of Charlottesville is planning to build a major commuter trail along <br />the 250 Bypass; and <br />Whereas, VDOT is planning to construct a major north -south trail as part of the <br />Meadowcreek Parkway project; and <br />Whereas, these trails will be interrupted by the presence of railroad tracks without a <br />bridge to connect them; and <br />Whereas, this bridge is the highest remaining priority in the City Bike/ <br />Pedestrian/Greenways Plan not yet under construction; and <br />Whereas, construction of the bridge joins two major trail systems together; and <br />Whereas, this project is listed in the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) long <br />range plan (UnJAM); and <br />is Whereas, VDOT provides TEA (Transportation Equity Act) funding for such projects, <br />and the City is applying for those funds to build the bridge; now, therefore <br />Be It Resolved that the Charlottesville City Council supports application by the City for <br />the McIntire Park Railroad Bridge project and requests VDOT to approve TEA funds for the <br />project. <br />Approved by Council <br />October 6, 2008 <br />QA of City Council <br />
