Resolution Supporting Recreational Trails Grant Application <br />• For 250 Bypass / McIntire Park multi -use trail <br />Whereas, the Department of Conservation and Recreation has a Recreational Trails program to <br />encourage development of trails in harmony with the natural environment; and <br />Whereas, the City of Charlottesville intends to provide a network of trail facilities, especially <br />along and across major streets and near schools and recreation facilities; and <br />Whereas, the City of Charlottesville's Comprehensive Plan and Bicycle and Pedestrian Master <br />Plan both recommend construction of this critical link in the trail network; and <br />Whereas, designs for the trail have identified the need to construct an elevated boardwalk portion <br />to protect trees and water quality; and <br />Whereas, there is already funding for the overall trail project to cover the required $18,000 in <br />local match money, <br />NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Council for the City of <br />Charlottesville that the City of Charlottesville endorses an application to the Virginia Department <br />of Conservation and Recreation for Recreational Trail funding to enhance the sustainability of <br />• the planned Route 250 Bypass / McIntire Park multi -use trail boardwalk. <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City of Charlottesville accepts the <br />responsibility of maintenance of the proposed infrastructure in perpetuity. <br />Approved by Council <br />August 17, 2009 <br />er of City Council <br />E <br />
