E <br />PROCLAMATION <br />IN SUPPORT OF CENSUS 2010 <br />WHEREAS, the decennial Census serves as the basis for the reapportionment of seats in <br />the U.S. House of Representatives, and the redrawing of legislative district <br />boundaries in the Virginia General Assembly and is the foremost method of <br />gathering information about our nation and our community; and <br />WHEREAS, census population totals are used to determine the annual distribution of <br />billions of dollars in federal, state and local funds for major programs in <br />areas such as transportation, education, community and health services, and <br />housing; and <br />WHEREAS, the Census is also used to help determine where to locate roads, schools, day <br />care centers, senior citizen centers, libraries and other facilities and is used <br />to make decisions concerning business growth and jobs; and <br />WHEREAS, the Census reaches every population group from long time residents to the <br />most recent immigrants, every age group from newborn to centenarian and <br />• every social class, racial and ethnic group; and <br />WHEREAS, the City of Charlottesville has a significant interest in working with regional <br />entities and community partners in ensuring a full and accurate count for the <br />upcoming Census 2010; <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Charlottesville City Council, on behalf of all <br />the residents of the City of Charlottesville, does hereby endorse the <br />formation of a regional Complete County Committee in partnership with the <br />County of Albemarle charged with working with community and business <br />organizations, the faith community, and organizations serving our diverse <br />ethnic, racial, and cultural population to encourage full participation in the <br />2010 Census. <br />Approved by City Council <br />December 7, 2009 <br />I kof City Council <br />0 <br />
