124 <br /> <br />recommended closing a portion of an alley off Forrest <br />Street. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Barnes, seconded by Mrs. Gleason, the <br />ordinance entitled "AN ORDINANCE CLOSING, VACATING AND <br />DISCONTINUING A PORTION OF AN ALLEY OFF FORREST STREET" was <br />offered and carried over to the next meeting for <br />consideration. <br /> <br />ORDINANCE: ADOPTING VIRGINIA STATEWIDE FIRE PREVENTION CODE <br /> <br /> Mr. Hendrix stated that the State has adopted a new <br />Statewide Fire Code and the ordinance will put that Code <br />into effect in the City and allow its enforcement. <br /> <br /> Mr. Goulclman stated that the new Code did not contain <br />any substantial changes over .the previous code. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mrs. Gleason, seconded by Mr. Barnes, the <br />ordinance entitled "AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND AND REORDAIN <br />CHAPTER 11 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF~CHARLOTTESVILLE, <br />VIRGINIA (1976), AS~AMENDED, TO EFFECT THE REPEAL OF THE <br />BUILDING OFFICIALS AND CODE ADMINISTRATORS (BOCA) BASIC FIRE <br />PREVENTION CODE, 1981 EDITION, AS THE LOCAL FIRE PREVENTION <br />CODE, TO ADOPT A POLICY OF ENFORCING IN ITS ENTIRETY THE <br />VIRGINIA STATEWIDE FIRE PREVENTION CODE, 1987 EDITION, AND <br />FOR OTHER HOUSEKEEPING PURPOSES RELATING TO FIRE PROTECTION, <br />REQUIRING THE REPEAL OF CERTAIN SECTIONS, THE AMENDMENT OF <br />OTHERS AND THE ADDITION OF A NEW SECTION, NUMBERED 11-6.2" <br />was offered and carried over to the next meeting for <br />consideration. <br /> <br />ORDINANCE: REGARDING BICYCLES AND MOPEDS <br /> <br /> Mr. Hendrix stated that the ordinance would add <br />mopeds to the City Code and allow them to be regulated the <br />same as bicycles. <br /> <br /> Mr. Jim Herndon, coordinator of the Bicycle Safety <br />Program in the Department of Community Development, <br />explained that the ordinance will define mopeds and allow <br />their registration with the Fire Department. Mr. Herndon <br />added that the ordinance will prohibit riding of mopeds by <br />persons under 16 years old as required by State law. <br /> <br /> On motion by Dr. Hall, seconded by Mr. Barnes, the <br />ordinance entitled "AN ORDINANCE AMENDING AND REORDAINING <br />SECTIONS 16-63.1, 16-63~2, 16-63.3, 16-63.4 AND 16-63.5 OF <br />ARTICLE IV OF CHAPTER 16 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF <br />CHARLOTTESVILLE, 1976, AS AMENDED, AND ADDING A NEW SECTION <br />NUMBERED 16-63o1.1, ALL REGULATING THE USE OF BICYCLES AND <br />MOPEDS WITHIN THE CITY LIMITS" was offered and carried over <br />to the next meeting for consideration. <br /> <br />ORDINANCE: RELATING TO MOTORIZED VEHICLES IN CEMETERIES, PARKS <br />AND ON PUBLIC SCHOOL PROPERTY <br /> <br /> Mr. Hendrix stated that the ordinance would broaden the <br />situations in which motorized vehicles are prohibited and <br />would allow their apprehension by the Police Department when <br />in violation of the ordinance. Mr. Hendrix stated that the <br />ordinance was an attempt to curb vandalism. <br /> <br /> Responding to a question from Mr. Barnes regarding the <br />penalty for violation of the ordinance, Mr. Gouldman stated <br />that violation would be a Class IV misdemeanor. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mrs. Gleason, seconded by Mr. Barnes, the <br />ordinance entitled "AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND AND REORDAIN <br />SECTION 16-10 OF ARTICLE I OF CHAPTER 16 OF THE CODE OF THE <br />CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE, 1976, AS AMENDED, RELATING TO <br />MOTORIZED VEHICLES IN CEMETERIES, PARKS AND ON PUBLIC SCHOOL <br />PROPERTY" was offered and carried over to the next meeting <br /> <br /> <br />
