2.7~ <br /> <br /> clarify .any misconception there maY be about the Council's <br /> position. <br /> <br /> The~Charlottesville City Council believes it is <br /> inappropriate to take a formal position on how to address the <br /> traffic problems in the 29 North Corridor until the Draft <br /> Environmental Impact Statement is completed. The Draft <br /> Environmental Impact Statement will be available in late <br /> spring or early summer according t© officials of the Virginia <br /> Department of Transportation. <br /> <br /> Upon receipt~of the Draft Environmental iImpact Statement <br /> Council will examine the~contents of the~statement and Study <br /> the data and proposals presented therein, with particular <br /> emphasis on their impaCt on the Cityl Recommendations'will <br /> be requested from Cityrstaff, the City Planning Commission <br /> and the City representatives~on the jOint TransPortation <br /> Committee, An~opportunity for public comment will be <br /> provided and Council memberS will confer with the County and <br /> the University about various options. Then a determination <br /> will be made by the Council regarding which option or <br /> combination of options is in the best interest of the City <br /> and the ~community at large. <br /> <br /> It is the Council'~s hOpe that the option selected will <br /> also be one acceptable to Albemarle County and the UniVersity <br /> of Virginia. The Council desires to select an option which <br /> is acceptable to all three, and is committed to working <br /> toward that -end. However, if no agreement can be reaChed <br /> within a reasonable length of time, then council Will deVote <br /> its energies to persuading the public, the~Virginia <br /> Department of Transportation, and the Virginia Transportation <br /> Board that the option it has selected is the ibest one for all <br /> <br />ORDINANCE: ADOPTION OF APPENDIX B OF BOCA FIRE PREVENTION CODE <br /> <br /> Mr. Hendrix'stated that the CitY is governed by the <br /> State_BOCA Fire prevention ~Code and Appendix B muSt be <br /> adopted as part Of the CitY Code. <br /> <br /> Mr. Bernard Maupin, Fire Prevention~Officer for the Fire <br /> Department, stated that Appendix B deals with basic fire <br /> prevention activities such as vehicle contrOl, boarding of <br /> fire equipment, and blocking ~fire hydrants. <br /> <br /> On motion by ~Mr ;i Vandever, seconded Mr. ToW'e, <the <br /> ordinance entitled "AN ORDINANCE ADDING TO ARTICLE III OF <br /> CHAPTER 11 A NEW SECTION NUMBERED 11-16 ADOPTING REGULATIONS <br /> RELATING TO '~IRE CONTROL MEA~SURES"'waS offered~and' carried <br /> over to the next meeting' for Consideration. <br /> <br />ORDINANCE: AMENDING ZONING ORDINANCE (2nd reading) <br /> <br /> The ordinance entitled "AN 'ORDINANCE ~TO~AMEND AND ~ <br /> REORDAIN SECTIONS~3t-167, 31-~170, ~31-170.t, 31-174.i~, ~3i~234, <br /> 31-252, AND 31-257 OF CHAPTER 31 OF THE CODE~ OF THE CITY OF <br /> CHARLOTTESVILLE, t~6,~'iAS AMENDED, RELATING TO SI.GNS, .~ <br /> VARIANCES GRANTED BY THE BOARD OF ZONING APPEALS,~ ACCESSORY <br /> BUILDINGS IN RESIDENTIAL ZONES, AND SETBACK REQUIREMENTS FOR <br /> PROJECTIONS,~, whic'h~was ~ffered at ~he February~6th meeting, <br /> was approved by the following vote. Noes: NOne. ~ <br /> <br />ORDINANCE: AMENDING THEEMPLOYEE'S RETIREMENTORDINANCE <br /> <br /> Mr. Hendrix stated that the Retirement Commission had <br /> voted to recommend to the Council that the Retirement <br /> ordinance be amended to allow employees with 30 years of <br /> service to retire at age 55 with a fUll'pension. Mr. Hendrix <br /> stated that the amendment would cost approximately $70,000 <br /> per year. <br /> <br /> <br />
