Edwards questioned the recent discussion concerning <br />relocating the children's library to the Gordon Avenue <br />Library. <br /> <br /> Ms. Waters stated that a public hearing on the library <br />consultant's report would be held on March 1st. <br /> <br /> Mr. Gary O'Connell, a member of the Jefferson-Madison <br />Regional Library Board, stated that the Board has not <br />discussed the proposal to relocate the children's library, <br />and stressed that the proposal was merely part of the~' <br />consultant's report and the community shoUld not become <br />unnecessarily alarmed over the suggestion. Edwards, Mr. Towe, <br />Mr. Vandever, ~Ms. Waters~ . <br /> <br /> Mr. Hendrix recommended that the City hold a two or <br />three day forum in order'to bring the public together to. <br />discuss the downtown business district. Mr. Hendrix stated <br />that he felt it would be helpful to have the forum conducted <br />by a facilitator and estimated that such a facilitator would <br />cost between $8,000 and $9,000. Mr. Hendrix stated that such <br />a forum would provide an opportunity to synthesize ideas and <br />issues and would culminate in a report from the facilitator <br />to the Council and the public. <br /> <br /> Rev. Edwards stated that he would oppose spending money <br />on a facilitator at this time. - <br /> <br /> Mr. Sheldon Anderson, President of Downtown <br />Charlottesville, Inc. (DCI), stated that DCI has organized <br />meetings to deal with the_ following areas of concern: <br />residents, property owners, merchants, .and professionals. <br />Mr. Anderson stated that he would favor bringing in a <br />facilitato~ following these meetings in order to provide <br />focus-and direction. Mr. Anderson also stated that he felt <br />it would be appropriate and beneficial to have a market and <br />economic study done of the downtown at some point in the <br />future. <br /> <br /> Ms. Waters stated that she felt an experienced <br />consultant would help bring together ideas as well as make <br />recommendations regarding what works in other communities. <br /> <br /> Mr. Vandever q. uestL~ned whether a local facilitator <br />could be used. <br /> <br /> <br />
