Absent: Mr. Buck and Rev. Edwards. <br /> <br /> Mr. Richard Comey, Director of the Charlottesville- <br />Albemarle Technical Education Center, stated that vocational <br />centers have historically had image problems and have been <br />perceived as preparing students for low paying jobs which has <br />resulted in difficulty recruiting students. Mr. Comey stated <br />that a study is being conducted on the state level to address <br />these problems. <br /> <br /> Mr. Comey stated that it is anticipated that Albemarle <br />County will only grant a 1% increase to CATEC instead of the <br />9.8% which is needed. Mr. Comey stated that the decrease <br />will result in deferred maintenance, equipment purchases and <br />reduced teacher/staff effectiveness training. <br /> <br /> Mr. Brad King of the School Administration, invited <br />Council to attend SADD Day at Charlottesville High School, a <br />joint effort with other high schools and drug enforcement <br />officials to help combat drug abuse. <br /> <br /> Mr. Jim Dunbar of the School Administration, stated that <br />the renovations at Venable Elementary School are close to the <br />original schedule. <br /> <br /> Mr. John Pezzoli, Chairman of the School Board, stated <br />that a decision will be made in the next few days regarding <br />the new superintendent. <br /> <br />A tour of the CATEC was provided for Council members. <br /> <br /> TheFmeeting was adj ournedo <br /> <br />Pre.dent ( ' - <br /> rk <br /> <br /> <br />
