NOTICE OF SPECIAL MEETING A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE COUNCIL WILL BE HELD ON Wednesday, September 10, 1986 AT 12:00 noon IN THE Charlottesville High School. THE PROPOSED AGENDA IS AS FOLLOWS: Luncheon meeting with School Board: 1) Renovation of Clark and Venable Elementary Schools 2) Creative Learning After School/Summer Program (CLAS/S) BY ORDER OF THE MAYOR BY Jeanne Cox (signed) CHARLOTTESVILLE HIGH SCHOOL - September 10, 1986 Council met in special session on this date with the following members present: Mr. Barnes, Mrs. Gleason, Dr. Hall, Mr. Towe. Absent: Mr. Buck. Dr. Richard Grieg gave a tour of Charlottesville High School. RENOVATION OF CLARK AND VENABLE ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS It was recommended that a School Capital Projects Renovation Steering Committee be formed with the membership as follows: 2 members of City Council, the 3-member Capital Projects Committee from the School Board, 2 staff members from~the City administration, and 2 staff members from the school administration. The chairperson of the Steering Committee will be a member of the School Board. It was agreed that Council would appoint their members at a later date. On motion by Mr. Barnes, seconded by Mr. Towe, the Memorandum of Understanding between the City Council and the SChool Board concerning the renovation of Clark and Venable Elementary Schools was unanimously approved by Council. Mr. Hendrix stated that most issues had been resolved concerning the contract with the architects and the remaining issues should be resolved and the contract signed by the end of the week. CREATIVE LEARNING AFTER SCHOOL/SUMMER PROGRAM (CLAS/S) Mr. John Pezzoli~ Vice-Chairman of the School Board, stated that the Schools had been operating the CLAS/S program, which had originally been initiated by parents of school children, in cooperation with the City. CLAS/S staff had requested that they be made School employees which would enable them to receive fringe benefits. Mr. Pezzoli stated that the School Board had voted to make the CLAS/S staff School employees on a year's trial basis as the School Board felt it would enable the CLAS/S program to reduce the turn-over in the program and to retain good employees. Mr. Pezzoli noted that the cost of the program is covered by fees generated by the Program, With the exception of the salary of the Coordinator for the program which is paid by the School Board.
