41 <br /> <br />There were no matters by the public. <br /> <br />~meeting was <br />es-ident <br /> <br />adjourned. <br /> <br />NOTICE OF SPECIAL MEETING <br /> <br />A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE COUNCIL WILL BE HELD ON <br />Wednesday, September 10, 1986 AT 12:00 noon IN THE <br />Charlottesville High School. <br /> <br />THE PROPOSED AGENDA IS AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Luncheon meeting with School Board: <br /> <br />1) Renovation of Clark and Venable Elementary <br /> Schools <br />2) Creative Learning After School/Summer Program <br /> (CLAS/S) <br /> <br />BY ORDER OF THE MAYOR <br /> <br />BY Jeanne Cox (signed) <br /> <br />CHARLOTTESVILLE HIGH SCHOOL - September 10, 1986 <br /> <br /> Council met in special session on this date with the <br />following members present: Mr. Barnes, Mrs. Gleason, Dr. <br />Hall, Mr. Towe. Absent: Mr. Buck. <br /> <br /> Dr. Richard Grieg gave a tour of Charlottesville High <br />School. <br /> <br />RENOVATION OF CLARK AND VENABLE ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS <br /> <br /> It was recommended that a School Capital Projects <br />Renovation Steering Committee be formed with the <br />membership as follows: 2 members of City Council, the <br />3-member Capital Projects Committee from the School Board, <br />2 staff members from~the City administration, and 2 staff <br />members from the school administration. The chairperson <br />of the Steering Committee will be a member of the School <br />Board. <br /> <br /> It was agreed that Council would appoint their <br />members at a later date. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Barnes, seconded by Mr. Towe, the <br />Memorandum of Understanding between the City Council and <br />the SChool Board concerning the renovation of Clark and <br />Venable Elementary Schools was unanimously approved by <br />Council. <br /> <br /> Mr. Hendrix stated that most issues had been resolved <br />concerning the contract with the architects and the <br />remaining issues should be resolved and the contract <br />signed by the end of the week. <br /> <br />CREATIVE LEARNING AFTER SCHOOL/SUMMER PROGRAM (CLAS/S) <br /> <br /> Mr. John Pezzoli~ Vice-Chairman of the School Board, <br />stated that the Schools had been operating the CLAS/S <br />program, which had originally been initiated by parents of <br />school children, in cooperation with the City. CLAS/S <br />staff had requested that they be made School employees <br />which would enable them to receive fringe benefits. Mr. <br />Pezzoli stated that the School Board had voted to make the <br />CLAS/S staff School employees on a year's trial basis as <br />the School Board felt it would enable the CLAS/S program <br />to reduce the turn-over in the program and to retain good <br />employees. Mr. Pezzoli noted that the cost of the program <br />is covered by fees generated by the Program, With the <br />exception of the salary of the Coordinator for the <br />program which is paid by the School Board. <br /> <br /> <br />
