111 <br /> <br />Control Board; <br /> <br />3) Pays no compensation to any officer or director <br /> in excess of reasonable allowance for services <br /> rendered; <br /> <br />4) Does not distribute any part of its net earnings <br /> to any individual. All funds come from the United <br /> Way, fund raising activities and dues; <br /> <br />5) Provies services for the common good of the public; <br /> <br />6) Does not carry on any political activity; <br /> <br />7) Has no rule, regulation, policy or practice <br /> discriminating on the basis of religious conviction, <br /> race, color,~ sex, or national origin; <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the <br />City of Charlottesville, that the Council hereby endorses, <br />supports and approves the adoption of an amendment to Title <br />58.1 of the Code of Virginia exempting property of the Senior <br />Center located in the City of Charlottesville from state and <br />local taxation; and <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the Council is <br />directed to convey certified copies of this resolution to the <br />members of the General Assembly representing the City. <br /> <br />RESOLUTION: ENDORSING LEGISLATION TO GRANT TAX EXEMPTION FOR <br />MARTHA JEFFERSON HOUSE AND INFIRMARY <br /> <br /> On motion by Dr. Hall, seconded by Mr. Barnes, Council <br />unanimously approved the resolution endorsing legislation to <br />grant tax exemption for Martha Jefferson House and <br />Infirmary. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Martha Jefferson House and Infirmary has <br />asked this Council to endorse an amendment to Title 58.1 of <br />the Code of Virginia granting Martha Jefferson House and <br />Infirmary exemption from certain state and local taxes; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Martha Jefferson House and Infirmary is a <br />nonprofit corporation organized to provide a home for adults <br />and a nursing home for the Charlottesville and Albemarle <br />County area~ and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this Council has considered whether property of <br />the Martha Jefferson House and Infirmary should be exempt <br />from taxation, at a public heraing, duly advertised as <br />required by Section 30-19.04 of the Virginia Code, held on <br />January 20, 1987; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Council finds that the Martha Jefferson <br />House and Infirmary: <br /> <br /> 1) Has been exempt from federal taxation pursuant <br /> to Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue <br /> Code of 1954; <br /> <br /> 2) Holds no current license from the Alcoholic <br /> Beverage Control Board; <br /> <br /> 3) Pays no compensation to any officer or director <br /> in excess of reasonable allowance for services <br /> rendered; <br /> <br />4) Does not distribute any part of its net earnings <br /> to any individual. The majority of funds are <br /> Received from donations and contributions; <br /> <br />5) Provides services for the common good of the public; <br /> <br /> <br />
