bodies regarding funding include justification about the <br />needs for and expected effects of each particular program; <br />2) fund the Monticello Area Community Action Agency housing <br />counseling program from general tax revenues; 3) drop the <br />Budget Review Committee; 4) retain last year's social <br />service priorities and criteria until better reasons are <br />given for changing them and the public has an opportunity to <br />comment on the proposals by the Budget Reveiw Committee; and <br />5) discuss overall priorirites and principles for budget <br />decisions. <br /> <br />PRESENTATION: <br /> <br />TEAMS <br /> <br />CHARLOTTESVILLE HIGH SCHOOL FORENSIC AND DEBATE <br /> <br />Council recognized the accomplishments of the <br />Charlottesville High School Forensic and Debate Teams for <br />the 1986-87 school year. On motion by Mrs. Gleason, <br />seconded by Dr. Hall, a resolution acknowledging the <br />successful season for the teams was unanimously approved by <br />Council. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Charlottesville High School Forensic and <br />Debate Teams have excelled in their achievements in the <br />1986-87 school year; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, twenty Forensic Team members competed in nine <br />tournaments including the Valley District, University of <br />Virginia, Regional, State and Washington-Metro Tournament; <br />and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City Council would like to recognize the <br />efforts of Coach Christie Dundiff and the following Forensic <br />Team members who brought honors to Charlottesville High <br />School for their successful competition: Chris <br />Eichelberger, Jessica Lee, Adam Perry, Marshelle Williams, <br />Shawn Simmons, Cindy Hayden, and Ellen Weintrab; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Forensic Team members Shawn Simmons and Cindy <br />Hayden have advanced to the National Tournament in Buffalo, <br />New York on May 21st through 24th; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Council would also like to recognize <br />Debate Team members Chris Eichelberger and Andreia Clay who <br />have also advanced to the National Tournament; <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of <br />Charlottesville, Virginia would like to recognize the <br />tremendous accomplishments of the Charlottesville High <br />School Forensic and Debate Teams and wish them continued <br />success in the upcoming National Tournament. <br /> <br />PRESENTATION: UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA STUDENT COUNCIL "SHARING <br />CHARLOTTESVILLE WEEK" <br /> <br /> Ms. Laura Forester, Vice-President of the University of <br />Virginia Student Council, presented Council with a joint <br />resolution regarding "Sharing Charlottesville Week" and <br />requested their approval, noting that the Student Council <br />had unanimously approved the resolution. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Barnes, seconded by Mrs. Gleason, <br />CoUncil unanimously approved the resolution regarding <br />"Sharing Charlottesville Week." <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Charlottesville includes within <br />its community the citizens of Charlottesville and the <br />students of the University of Virginia; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, those citizens and students share many common <br />concerns, needs, and goals; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, those citizens and students believe that a <br />healthy relationship between them is vital to creating an <br /> <br /> <br />
