SUPPORTING VHDA MORTGAGE FUNDS FOR SHELTER FOR HELP <br />IN EMERGENCY (SHE) <br /> <br /> Mr. Hendrix stated that this resolution was the same as <br />the previous one, with SHE requesting $135,000 from VHDA to <br />relocate their facility. It was noted that the City owns <br />the property presently used by SHE. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Barnes, seconded by Dr. Hall, the <br />resolution supporting VHDA mortgage funds for Shelter for <br />Help in ~Emergency was.unanimously approved by Council. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Shelter for Help in Emergency has made <br />application to the Emergency Shelter Financing Program of the <br />Virginia Housing Development Authority for mortgage funding <br />in the amount of $135,000; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Shelter for Help in Emergency provides an <br />essential community service to citizens of Charlottesville <br />and the surrounding area and is sorely in need of new and <br />enlarged facilities to carry out those services; now, <br />therefore, <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of <br />Charlottesville, Virginia that the City supports the <br />application of the Shelter for Help in Emergency for $135,000 <br />in mortgage funding from the Virginia Housing Development <br />Authority and urges its speedy approval. <br /> <br />RESOLUTION: APPROVING VIRGINIA SHELTER GRANT APPLICATION FOR <br />SHELTER FOR HELP IN EMERGENCY <br /> <br /> Mr. Hendrix stated that a grant pool of $160,00 was <br /> being made available by the State for local shelters <br /> throughout Virginia and SHE was requesting Council's <br /> support for their request. <br /> <br /> Mr. Huja stated that the City applied for the grant on <br />behalf of SHE and SHE must provide local matching funds. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mrs. Gleason, seconded by Dr. Hall, the <br />resolution approving the Virginia Shelter Grant application <br />for the Shelter for Help in Emergency was unanimously <br />approved by Council. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Shelter for Help in Emergency provides <br />Vital emergency housing and related services for citizens of <br />the Charlottesville area.; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the building currently occupied by the Shelter <br />under lease from the City is inadequate to meet the demands <br />for its services; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Shelter has requested that the City apply <br />in its behalf to the Virginia Department of Housing and <br />Community Development for a Virginia Shelter Grant in the <br />amount of $15,000 to assist the Shelter in obtaining more <br />adequate facilities~ now, therefore, be it <br /> <br /> Resolved by the Council for the City of Charlottesville, <br />Virginia, that the City Manager or his designees are hereby <br />authorized and directed to make application to the Virginia <br />Department of Housing and Community Development for a grant <br />to be used by the Shelter for Help in Emergency, provided <br />that the City's acceptance of such grant, if it is awarded, <br /> <br /> <br />
