147 Mr. Robert Vaughan suggested that anyone wishing to support funding for museums and libraries should attend the General Assembly on Thursday. Ms. Slaughter congratulated Walton Middle School students on the grand opening of their television studio. OTHER BUSINESS Ms. Richards acknowledged the ~efforts of Denny Barberio to equip the television studio at Walton Middle School. Ms. Richards announced that the African-American Summit will hold a town meeting on race relations on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. Ms. Daugherty said that the Junior League will sponsor a job fair on April 6th. Ms. Daugherty recognized the "Adopt a Spot" program sponsored by the Parks Division. Mr. Cox explained that the transition zone group will hold a community workshop on January 31 st. Ms. Slaughter recognized the celebrations held in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., and recognized the contributions of him and others. On motion by Mr. Toscano, seconded by Ms. Daugherty, Council unanimously voted to meet in executive session for the purpose of discussing appointments to boards and commissions, as authorized by Section 2.1-344(A)(1) of the Virginia Code; and for the purpose of considering the acquisition or use of real property for public purpose, or the disposition of publicly held property, as authorized by Section 2.1-344(A)(3) of the Virginia Code, and more specifically described as property in the Belmont neighborhood. Council reconvened in open session and, on motion by Ms. Daugherty, seconded by Ms. Richards, certified that, to the best of each member's knowledge, (i) only public business matters lawfully exempted from open meeting requirements by Virginia law were discussed in the executive meeting to which this certification resolution applies, and (ii) only such public business matters as were identified in the motion convening the executive meeting were heard, discussed or considered by the Council. APPOINTMENTS: BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS On motion by Ms. Daugherty, seconded by Ms. Richards, Ms. Frances S. Bonardi was unanimously appointed to an unexpired and two-year term on the Jefferson Area Board for Aging Advisory Council. This term will expire on March 31, 2000. On motion by Mr. Toscano, seconded by Ms. Richards, Council unanimously reappointed Ms. Linda Bowen and Ms. Melissa Oliver, and appointed Mr. Kirby Hutto to three-year terms on the Parks and Recreation Advisor}, Board. These terms will expire on December 3 I, 2000. On motion by Ms. Richards, seconded by Ms. Daugherty, Council unanimously appointed Mr. Lee Danielson (development community) and Mr. R. Madison Spencer (architect) to serve year terms on the Urban Design Committee. These terms will expire on July 31, 2000. /The meeting was adjourned. p~esident / -
