147 <br /> <br /> Mr. Robert Vaughan suggested that anyone wishing to support funding for museums <br />and libraries should attend the General Assembly on Thursday. <br /> <br /> Ms. Slaughter congratulated Walton Middle School students on the grand opening of <br />their television studio. <br /> <br />OTHER BUSINESS <br /> <br /> Ms. Richards acknowledged the ~efforts of Denny Barberio to equip the television <br />studio at Walton Middle School. <br /> <br /> Ms. Richards announced that the African-American Summit will hold a town meeting <br />on race relations on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. <br /> <br />Ms. Daugherty said that the Junior League will sponsor a job fair on April 6th. <br /> <br /> Ms. Daugherty recognized the "Adopt a Spot" program sponsored by the Parks <br />Division. <br /> <br /> Mr. Cox explained that the transition zone group will hold a community workshop on <br />January 31 st. <br /> <br /> Ms. Slaughter recognized the celebrations held in honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., <br />and recognized the contributions of him and others. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Toscano, seconded by Ms. Daugherty, Council unanimously voted <br />to meet in executive session for the purpose of discussing appointments to boards and <br />commissions, as authorized by Section 2.1-344(A)(1) of the Virginia Code; and for the <br />purpose of considering the acquisition or use of real property for public purpose, or the <br />disposition of publicly held property, as authorized by Section 2.1-344(A)(3) of the Virginia <br />Code, and more specifically described as property in the Belmont neighborhood. <br /> <br /> Council reconvened in open session and, on motion by Ms. Daugherty, seconded by <br />Ms. Richards, certified that, to the best of each member's knowledge, (i) only public business <br />matters lawfully exempted from open meeting requirements by Virginia law were discussed in <br />the executive meeting to which this certification resolution applies, and (ii) only such public <br />business matters as were identified in the motion convening the executive meeting were <br />heard, discussed or considered by the Council. <br /> <br />APPOINTMENTS: BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS <br /> <br /> On motion by Ms. Daugherty, seconded by Ms. Richards, Ms. Frances S. Bonardi was <br />unanimously appointed to an unexpired and two-year term on the Jefferson Area Board for <br />Aging Advisory Council. This term will expire on March 31, 2000. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Toscano, seconded by Ms. Richards, Council unanimously <br />reappointed Ms. Linda Bowen and Ms. Melissa Oliver, and appointed Mr. Kirby Hutto to <br />three-year terms on the Parks and Recreation Advisor}, Board. These terms will expire on <br />December 3 I, 2000. <br /> <br /> On motion by Ms. Richards, seconded by Ms. Daugherty, Council unanimously <br />appointed Mr. Lee Danielson (development community) and Mr. R. Madison Spencer <br />(architect) to serve year terms on the Urban Design Committee.
