202 <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Toscano, seconded by Ms. Daugherty, the $350,000 appropriation <br />for Washington Park renovations was offered and carried over to the next meeting for <br />consideration. <br /> <br /> Ms. Slaughter said she feds the name of the Park needs to be addressed, and asked the <br />Committee to recommend whether it should be called Booker T. Washington Park or <br />Washington Park. Ms. Slaughter added that she hopes a way can be found to display the <br />history of the park at the park. <br /> <br />PUBLIC <br /> <br /> Mr. Gaines said he wanted to make sure the public understands that Phases I and II of <br />the renovations at Washington Park are fully funded, and the fundraising is for Phase III. <br /> <br />OTHER BUSINESS <br /> <br /> Ms. Richards said she is concerned that Madison House has not been recommended for <br />funding by the U. Va. Student Council and while she realizes it is a University matter, she <br />feels that Madison House provides an important town/gown connection, and asked that <br />Council write a letter to the Student Council indicating the importance of Madison House to <br />the community. <br /> <br /> Councilors agreed that a letter be xvritten to Student Council regarding funding for <br />Madison House. <br /> <br /> Ms. Daugherty said that in conjunction with Architecture week, tours of house <br />additions will be available to the public. <br /> <br /> Ms. Daugherty said that in conjunction with Celebrating Families Week, the City will <br />offer free bus rides to children if they have pledged at school to turn off their televisions for <br />the week. : <br /> <br /> Ms. Slaughter said there will be a meeting on April 21 to discuss proposed <br />improvements to Rio Road, scheduled for the summer of 1999. <br /> <br /> Ms. Slaughter said that the Charlottesville High School orchestra is continuing to raise <br />money for their summer trip and she hopes Council can find a way to support their endeavor. <br /> <br /> On motion by Ms. Richards, seconded by Mr. Toscano, Council voted, with Mr. Cox <br />absent, to meet in executive session for the purpose of appointing members to various City <br />boards or agencies, as authorized by Section 2.1-344(A)(1) of the Virginia Code; and for the <br />purpose of considering the acquisition or use of real property for public purpose, or the <br />disposition of publicly held property, as authorized by Section 2.1-344(A)(3) of the Virginia <br />Code, and more specifically described as property east of the downtown mall and property on <br />Water Street. <br /> <br /> Council reconvened in open session and, on motion by MS. Daugherty, seconded by <br />Mr. Toscano, certified, with Mr. Cox absent, that, to the best of each member's knowledge, <br />(i) only public business matters lawfully exempted from open meeting requirements by <br />Virginia law were discussed in the executive meeting to which this certification resolution <br />applies, and (ii) only such public business matters as were identified in the motion convening <br />the executive meeting were heard, discussed or considered by the Council. <br /> <br />RESOLUTION: APPROVING SALE OF CSX PARCEL <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Toscano, seconded by Ms. Daugherty, Council unanimously <br />approved, with Mr. Cox absent, the resolution authorizing the sate of CSX parcels A-2.1.1 <br />and A-2.1.2 to Piedmont Building and Development Corporation. <br /> <br /> <br />
