I49 <br /> <br />OTHER -BUSINESS <br /> <br /> Mr. Cox asked when Council will likely receive a response from VDOT concerning <br />a detailed accounting of their expenses for the Meadowcreek Parkway, and Mr. <br />Gouldman said that he will follow-up his letter request with a phone call. <br /> <br /> Mr. Caravati said he understands that a citizen's group has made a Freedom of <br />Information request to obtain financial information from VDOT and has been told the <br />information is available in Richmond. <br /> <br /> Mr. Cox said Council has also requested new traffic counts from VDOT given that <br />there is no eastern bypass. Mr. Cox expressed concern that the public has not had an <br />opportunity to see Will Rieley's options for Meadowcreek Parkway in preparation for the <br />public hearing on the 21~t. <br /> <br /> Mr. O'Connelt said that Mr. Rietey's report has been available on the City's <br />webpage, at City Hall and was repOrted extensively in the Daily Progress. <br /> <br /> Mr. Caravati suggested that enlarged photographs of Mr. Rieley's designs be made <br />available in City Halt and in the Library. <br /> <br /> Mr. Cox asked if it would be possible to move the site of the public hearing to a <br />larger location, but Ms. Daugherty said that has been explored, but it is not possible to <br />televise the meeting if it is relocated. Ms. Daugherty said that the over-flow crowd can <br />be located in the Basement Conference Room where a television wilt be available. Ms. <br />Daugherty said. guidelines will also be available to the public in order to streamline the <br />public hearing. <br /> <br /> A work session on the Meadowcreek Parkway was scheduled for July 1 at 7:00 <br />p.m. <br /> <br /> Councilors set July 2 as the deadline for receipt ofapplications for the Housing <br />Authority. <br /> <br /> Mr. O'Connelt said that BFI has been awarded the trash collection contract, <br />effective July 1, for a savings of $80,000 per year. Mr. O'ConnelI said that there will be <br />no changes in collection of trash or recycling and a supervisor on City staff will oversee <br />the private collection. Mr. O'Connell said that large item pickup will continue as it is <br />now. <br /> <br /> Mr. Caravati expressed concern about the fate of City employees whose jobs will be <br />eliminated in the privatization, and Mr. O'Connetl said that they will have the option of <br />transferring to BFI with comparable pay and benefits, or taking another job within the <br />City. <br /> <br /> Mr. Caravati said he would want alt BFI employees to have comparable pay and <br />benefits as the City offers. Mr. Caravati also expressed concern that BFI could raise its <br />rates in the future. <br /> <br /> Mr. O'Connelt said that BFI has a three year, renewable contract, but the City is <br />keeping its trash collection trucks in case BFI significantly raises their rates. <br /> <br /> Mr. Cox ~said he would like to know if BFI has a living wage policy for all its <br />employees. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Toscano, seconded by Mr. Caravati, Council voted (Ayes: Mr. <br />Caravati, Mr. Cox, Ms. Daugherty, Mr. Toscano.
