Toscano. <br /> <br />RECOGNITIONS/A'WARDS <br /> <br /> Ms. Daugherty presented proctamationsproclaiming September as "Library Card <br />Sign Up Month" and the week of September t7 - 23 as "Constitution Week." <br /> <br />PUBLIC <br /> <br /> Ms. Sandy Snook, Co-President of the League of Women Voters, applauded the <br />joint-meeting to' be held next week between the Council, Board of Supervisors, Rivanna <br />Water and Sewer Authority and Albemarle County Water Authority to discuss long-term <br />water supply for the region. Ms. Snook said the area's water supply is basic to our future <br />and affects alt our growth questions. <br /> <br /> Ms. Malika Edwards, 6-t3 Belmont Avenue, invited Council and the public to join <br />the "critical mass bike ride" to support bike riding as everyday transportation. <br /> <br /> Ms. Katherine Peaslee, 2na Street, N.W., said there appears to be a large gap in <br />communication between Council, City govermnent and citizens, and suggested that the <br />Mayor and City Manager hold monthly press conferences. <br /> <br /> Mr. Robert Winstead, 1613 OakleafLane, said that he and his neighbors havea <br />severe drainage problem caused by construction of Walker School. Mr. Winstead said he <br />is on the City's 5-6 year list which requires owners to pay a portion ofthe cost, but he <br />does not think it isthe property owners' responsibility to pay. Mr. Winstead suggested <br />that the problem be corrected as part of renovations to Walker School. <br /> <br /> Mr. Paul Grady, a resident of Crozet, said that if the Meadowcreek treatment site <br />is developed in its current form it will eliminate a proposed route for an eastern connector <br />road which would help relieve traffic on the Route 250 Bypass. Mr. Grady presented a <br />map showing where the proposed connector could be located and suggested that a I00 <br />foot strip of land on the treatment site be reserved until the eastern initiative study is <br />completed. <br /> <br />PUBLIC HEARING/ORD!N ,ANCE: EXCHANGE OF 3 ACRES OF CITY <br />PROPERY AT END OF LOCUST LANE AND ADJOINING MEADOW CREEK <br />GOLF-COURSE FOR 15.665 ACRES ADJOINING RIVERVIEW PARK <br /> <br /> Mr. Satyendra Huja, Director of Strategic Planning, provided brief background <br />information on the proposed exchange of land. The City's Housing Strategy shows a <br />.need for balanced housing since only 38% of homes are now owner occupied and the <br />majority of the region's subsidized housing units are located in the City. The proposal is <br />t.o exchange three of the eight acres of City-owned land adjacent to Pen Park for 15.655 <br />acres adjacent to Riverview Park.
