COUNCIL CHAMBER - October 4, 1999 Council met in regular session on this date with the follow'rog members present: Mr. Caravati, Ms. Daugherty, Ms. Richards, Mr. Toseano. Absent: Mr. Cox. Ms. Daugherty announced that Charlottesville will be featured on the-Arts and Entertainment Network as one of the Ten Best Places to Live on November 7 at 7:00 p.m. Ms. Daugherty said that a request had been made to help flood ravaged areas of North Carolina and anyone wishing to help may call the Clerk of Council for details. RECOGNITIONS/AWARDS Ms. Daugherty recognized the recent release of a CD by members of the Music Resource Center. Mr. Pat Belile of the Music Resource Center, thanked Council for their support and said that t8 members ofthe Center produced the CD. April, a member of the Center, sang an original song that appears on the CD. Ms. Daugherty proclaimed October 15 as "White Cane Safety Day." PUBLIC Ms. Grace Tinsley, Cynthiunna Avenue, asked audience members to stand in support ofthe University of Virginia admissions policy and many stood. Ms. Tinsley said that the University has been successful in recruiting, retaining and graduating African-American students, but their admissions policy is being challenged and threatened. Ms. Tinsley commended CounciI for supporting the policy and urged others to speak out in support ofthe policy. Mr. Dan Rosensweig, Altamont Circle, asked that Council raise the cap 'on the Housing Opportunities Partnership (HOP) Program. Mr. Rosensweig said he is trying to
