272

ORDINANCE: WEED ORI)FNANCE CHANGES; AD~STR_ATIVE FEE
INCREASES

Mr. Tolbert recommended amending the weed and trash ordinance to: 1)
eliminate a loophole in the weed ordinance and apply the requirement to all developed
properVj, rather than only beyond 150 feet of an occupied unit; and 2) change the
administrative fee to $75 for violations where the City cleans up the property. Mr.
Tolbert said the cuxrent low fee of $15 makes it too convenient for property owners to
have the City clean up. The increased fee should also cut down on repeat offenses.

Ms. Daugherty asked that the new ordinance be publicized.

Mr. O'Connell noted that property owners received notices prior to being fined.

Mr. Caravati recommended that sanctions be considered for repeat offenses as
well.

On motion By Mr. Toscano, seconded by Mr. Caravati, the ordinance entitled
"AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 17-30, AND REPEALING SECTION 17-
31 OF CHAPTER 17 OF THE CODE OF THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE, 1990,
AS AMENDED, AND ADDING SECTIOI'4S 17-31 THROUGH I7-3 t.4, I~3~LATFNG
TO UNLAWFUL GROWTH OF WEEDS AND ACCUMULATION OF TRASH" was
offered and carried over to the next meeting for consideration.

CONSENTAGENDA

On motion by Mr. Caravati, seconded by Mr. Toscano, the following consent
agenda items were approved by the following vote.
