Absent: Mr. Cox. <br /> <br />AWARDS/RECOGNITIONS: NATIONAL OPTRONICS, INC. <br /> <br /> Mr. Caravati presented the City's Business Recognition Award to Mr. David <br />Beach of National Optronics, Inc. <br /> <br />PUBLIC <br /> <br /> Mr. Caravati said that Council will delay the vote on the Neighborhood Plans <br />scheduled later in the meeting. <br /> <br /> Mr. Bob Roach, 1604 Trailridge Road, thanked Council for delaying the vote on <br />the Neighborhood Plans so that the Johnson Village residents can address wording <br />changes made by the Planning Commission regarding entrances and through streets into <br />the neighborhood. <br /> <br /> Ms. Pam Fisher, 1604 Trailridge Road, supported the delay in voting on the <br />Neighborhood Plans and said that connectedness does not mean through streets. <br /> <br />PUBLIC HEARiNG/ORDINANCE: APPROVING LEASE FOR VIRGINIA <br />DISCOVERY MUSEUM <br /> <br /> Mr. O'ConnelI said that the Virginia Discovery Museum is housed in a City <br />owned building and the ordinance will renew the lease for an additional five years. Mr. <br />O'Connell said the Museum has been a tremendous attraction for downtown. <br /> <br />The public hearing was opened. <br /> <br /> Ms. Peppy Linden, Executive Director of the Museum, a resident of511 North 1st <br />Street, thanked Council for their past support and said she hopes they will renew the <br />lease. Ms. Linden said the Museum has had over 500,000 visitors from 40 states and 20 <br />countries since it opened. <br /> <br /> Responding to a question from Ms. Richards, Ms. Linden said their funding <br />sources are: one third from revenues; 6% from government; and special events, grants <br />and fund drives. <br /> <br />The public hearing was closed. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Toscano, seconded by Mr. Lynch, the ordinance entitled "AN <br />ORDYNANCE APPROVING LEASE AGREEMENT FOR 524 E. MAIN STREET <br />(VIRGINIA DISCOVERY MUSEUM)" was offered and carried over to the next meeting <br />for consideration. <br /> <br /> <br />
