42 <br /> <br />Coordinator of the After School/Summer Program, stated <br />that the two programs work together at Johnson and Burnley- <br />Moran Schools and use the 'same staff. <br /> <br /> Ms. Rainey stated that the program's strength is its <br />emphasis on educational activities and added that certified <br />teachers are hired to run the programs. <br /> <br /> Dr. Gunter recommended using a sliding scale for the <br />program fees. Dr. Gunter stated that she felt the program <br />was very valuable but requested more information. <br /> <br /> Dr. Hall stated he felt the program served as a <br />resource for strengthening students. <br /> <br /> Ms. Rainey stated that an effort had been made to make <br />fees as low as possible in order to encourage participation. <br /> <br /> Mr. Buck recommended appropriating $13,000 for the <br />Summer Program and studying the other issues before deciding <br />on the fall program. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Barnes, seconded by Dr. Hall, the <br />appropriation of $13,000 for the Summer Program was offered <br />and carried over to the next meeting for consideration. <br /> <br />RESOLUTION: APPOINTING VIEWERS TO CONSIDER CLOSING A PORTION OF <br />LEE STREET BETWEEN JEFFERSON PARK AVENUE AND llTH STREET <br /> <br /> On motion by Mrs. Gleason, seconded by Dr. Gunter, the <br />resolution appointing viewers to consider closing a portion <br />of Lee Street between Jefferson Park Avenue and llth Street <br />was unanimously approved by Council. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this Council has received a petition requesting <br />vacation of Lee Street between Jefferson Park Avenue and <br />Eleventh Street, a distance of approximately 1,020 feet; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, it appears to Council that the notice required <br />by Section 1S.1-364 of the Code of Virginia (19S0), as <br />amended, has been duly advertised; now, therefore, <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Charlottes- <br />ville that Ms. Mary Jane Haynes, Messrs. W. J. Copeland and <br />H. P. Winn, Jr. report in writing to Council what inconvenience, <br />if any, would result from such vacation. <br /> <br />RESOLUTION: APPOINTING VIEWERS TO CONSIDER CLOSING A PORTION OF <br />AN ALLEY OFF E. MARKET STREET, ADJACENT TO PARCELS 271, 272 AND <br />273 <br /> <br /> On motion by Mrs. Gleason, seconded by Mr. Barnes, the <br />resolution appointing viewers to consider closing a portion <br />of an alley off E. Market Street, adjacent to parcels 271, <br />2?2, and 273 was unanimously approved by Council. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this Council has received a petition requesting <br />vacation of a portion of an alley off East Market Street, <br />approximately 135 feet long and 15 feet wide, and adjacent to <br />Parcels 271, 272 and 273 on City Real.Property Tax Map 54; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, it appears to Council that the notice required <br />by Section 15.1-364 of the Code of Virginia (1950), as <br />amended, has been duly advertised; now, therefore, <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Charlottes- <br />ville that Ms. Mary Jane Haynes, Messrs.
