S9 <br /> <br />APPROPRIATION: $1,000 GIRLS' ATTENTION HOME <br /> <br /> On motion by Dr. Hall, seconded by Mrs. Gleason, the <br />$1,000 donation to the Girls' Attention Home was approved <br />by the following vote. Ayes: Mr. Barnes, Mr. Buck, Mrs. <br />Gleason, Dr. Hall. Noes: None. Absent: Dr. Gunter. <br /> <br />APPROPRIATION: $15,000 COMMUNITY ATTENTION FUND <br />DETENTION AND EMERGENCY PLACEMENT <br /> <br />LESS SECURE <br /> <br /> Mr. Hendrix explained that the appropriation would fund <br />a pilot program under contract from the Community Development <br />Block Grant program for short-term, less secure detention. <br /> <br /> Mr. Paul McWhinney, Director of Community Attention, stated <br />that the Advisory Board had approved the program and two boys <br />are participating in the program. Mr. McWhinney stated that <br />referrals would come from the court service unit and the program <br />is a result of new legislation which makes it more difficult to <br />place juveniles in detention. <br /> <br /> On motion by Dr. Hall, seconded by Mrs. Gleason, the <br />$15,000 appropriation for less secure detention and emergency <br />placement was offered and carried over to the next meeting for <br />consideration. <br /> <br />APPROPRIATION: $774,392 SCHOOL PUPIL TRANSPORTATION <br /> <br /> On motion by Mrs. Gleason, seconded by Dr. Hail, the <br />$774,392 appropriation which transfers the school bus service <br />funds from the schools to the City, was offered and carried <br />over to the next meeting for consideration. <br /> <br />APPROPRIATION: $13,52S - PEN PARK ELECTRICAL SERVICE <br /> <br /> Mr. Hendrix explained that the $13,525 appropriation would <br />bring electricity into Pen Park with underground service to <br />provide electricity to a transformer adjacent to the Little <br />League concession area only~. <br /> <br /> Mr. Robert Conovan, President of the Little League, stated <br />that his league was the only one in the area without electricity <br />to the concession area. <br /> <br /> Mr. Don Lang, President-Elect of the Little League, <br />supported the appropriation which would allow an increase in <br />the League income from the concession stand and would enable <br />the League to use a batting machine. <br /> <br /> Mr. Buck recommended that the appropriation be deferred <br />and taken up during the regular budget process at which time it <br />could be considered with other park needs. <br /> <br /> Mrs. Gleason and Mr. Barnes stated that while they agreed <br />with Mr. Buck, they were concerned that the electricity would <br />not be available for next year's use should it be deferred. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr.. Barnes~ seconded by Dr. Hall, the I13,525 <br />appropriation for providing electricity to Pen Park was offered <br />and carried over to the next meeting for consideration. <br /> <br /> Mr. Donovan stated that the Little League would take full <br />responsibility for bringing the electricity from the transformer <br />into the concession stand. <br /> <br />APPROPRIATION: $21,000 - SUMMER NUTRITION PROGRAM <br /> <br /> Mr. Hendrix stated that the appropria%ion represented U.S. <br />Department of Agriculture grant funds for the Summer Nutrition <br />Program. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mrs. Gleason, seconded by Dr. Hall, the $21,000 <br />appropriation for the Summer Nutrition Program was offered and <br />carried over to the next meeting for consideration. <br /> <br /> <br />
