99 <br /> <br /> Mr. Barnes requested information on the 1982 study which <br />had been referenced and the data supportive of the 63% working <br />parent figure. <br /> <br /> Ms. Debbie Oder, Coordinator of the Community Education <br />Program at Jackson-Via Elementary School, stated that she <br />would like to see permanent space provided for the program <br />and additional staff. <br /> <br />There was a discussion of the fee structure for the pro-ram. <br /> <br /> Ms. Peacock stated that United Way had been administering <br />the Community Education scholarships but did not object to the <br />program administering its own scholarships. <br /> <br /> Mr. Barnes requested the data supportive of the number <br />of requests received from parents at Venable and Greenbrier. <br /> <br /> Mr. Buck stated that, subject to receiving the requested <br />reports, he was inclined to support the expansion of the <br />Community Education Program to Venable and Greenbrier. <br /> <br /> It was the consensus of Council to support the expansion <br />of the Community Education Program to Venable and Greenbrier. <br /> <br /> There was a discussion of the summer program of the <br />Community Education Program and the roles of the Parks and <br />Recreation Department and Community Education Program staffs. <br /> <br /> Mr. Hendrix recommended that consideration of the summer <br />program be done during the budget process. <br /> <br /> Mr. Buck requested a staff report on the coordination of <br />summer needs for youth. <br /> <br />APPOINTMENTS: BOARDS'AND COMMISSIONS <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Barnes, Mr. Edward Lowry was unanimously <br />appointed to an unexpired term as the joint City-County <br />appointment on the Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport Commission <br />and unanimously appointed to the Charlottesville-Albemarle <br />Airport Authority. <br /> <br /> Mr. Lowry's term on the Airport Commission will expire <br /> on December 1, 1987. <br />ng was adjourned. <br /> <br />COUNCIL CHAMBER Monday, August 19, !98S <br /> <br /> Council met in regular session on this date with the <br />following members present: Mr. Barnes, Mr. Buck, Mrs. Gleason, <br />Dr. Gunter, Dr. Hall. <br /> <br />PUBLIC <br /> <br />There were no matters by the public. <br /> <br />APPOINT~ENTS: BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS <br /> <br /> On motion by Dr. Hall, Mr. R. Bruce Baumgartner and Mr. <br />Richard A. Gibbs, III were unanimously appointed to four-year <br />terms on the Highway Safety Commission. These terms will expire <br />on June 30, 1989. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mrs. Gleason, Ms. Katherine McNett was <br />unanimously appointed to a four-year term on the Housing Board <br />of Adjustment and Appeals. This term will expire on June 30, <br />1989. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Barnes, Mr. David G. Sutton was unanimously <br />appointed to fill an unexpired term on the Industrial Authority. <br /> <br /> <br />
