meeting for consideration. <br /> <br />PUBLIC <br /> <br />There were no matters by the public. <br /> <br />OTHER BUSINESS <br /> <br /> Mr. Hendrix presented a resolution supporting a <br />terminal radar at the Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport. <br /> <br /> On motion by Dr. Hall, seconded by Mrs. Gleason, the <br />resolution was unanimously approved by Council. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport <br />provides an essential transportation service to the people <br />of Charlottesville, Albemarle County and many nearby <br />communities; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, this airport is a major factor in the <br />economic development of Charlottesville, Albemarle County <br />and the other communities it serves; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport lacks <br />a terminal radar facility; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, radar services are currennly provided by <br />Washington Center, which serves 43 sectors; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport is <br />within the Gordonsville/Low Altitude Sector and the <br />Gordonsville/High Altitude Sector, two of the busiest of <br />the 43 Sectors served by Washington Center; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, a Charlottesville-Albemarle terminal radar <br />facility could reduce Washington Center traffic in the <br />Gordonsville/Low Altitude Sector by as much as 50%; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, such service would greatly improve safety <br />and reduce traffic delays, especially in times of low <br />visibility; now, therefore <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of <br />Charlottesville, Virginia that the City of Charlottesville <br />supports the Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport Authority <br />in its request for the Federal Aviation Administration to <br />establish a terminal radar facility in the vicinity of <br />the Charlottesville-Albemarle Airport. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Charlottesville City <br />Council insmructs the Clerk of Council to send this <br />resolution to its representatives in the United States <br />Senate and the House of Representatives. <br /> <br /> Dr. Hall stated that the Public Works Department had <br />done an excellent job of cleaning up Ridge Street. <br /> <br /> On motion by Mr. Barnes, seconded by Mrs. Gleason, <br />Council voted to meet in executive session to discuss <br />personnel and potential and existing litigation as <br />exempted by Section 2.1-344(a)(1) and (6) of the Virginia <br />Freedom of Information Act, following the work session <br />with the School Board. <br /> <br />WORK SESSION: SCHOOL BOARD BUDGET <br /> <br /> Council adjourned to the basement conference room for <br />a work session on the School Board FY 86-87 budget. <br /> <br /> <br />
