LJ <br />COUNCIL CHAMBER, OCTOBER 17, 1938 <br />The Council met in regular session on this date with the foilowing members <br />present: %Ir. Gleason, Dr. Haden, Mr. Nuff, Mr. Jessup, and tier. Peyton. <br />Minutes of the Meetings of October 32 5, and 12, 1938, were read and approved. <br />A Committee from the School Board, composed of Messrs. Perkins, Synder and <br />Committee fromWatson, addressed the Council and stated that they had been instructed by the School <br />School Rd. <br />re: Fire Board to consult the Council in reference to the possibility of the fire hazards in <br />Hazard on <br />Preston Ave. the new white high school site on Preston Avenue being abandoned or modified by some <br />i <br />action of the Council. A motion by:Ir. Gleason that a Committee be appointed to <br />ma''-I.e an investigation and report on this matter was unanimously adopted. The President <br />appointed Mr. Jessup, Mr. Peyton, and Mr. Burnley to serve on this Committee. <br />County ',dater On motion by Mr. Jessup, County Water Connections were granted to Mrs. Edna <br />• Connections <br />Burgess, and Marion E. Ballard. <br />Request A petition of H. C. Gleason requesting that a police fine refund in amount of <br />police fine <br />refund denied $100.00 be made to him was presented, and on motion this request was unanimously <br />cv refused. <br />Street Light A petition for a street light back of the Salvation Army property at 251 `:';'est <br />� Petition <br />lain Street was referred to the Mayor and City Manager with power to act. <br />The following report was unanimously adopted: <br />October 17, 1938 <br />To the Members of the City Council <br />City of Charlottesville, Virginia <br />Gentlemen: - <br />Pursuant to your instructions we have investigated <br />the request of the Monticello Motel, and would <br />Report re: recommend that it be given factory rates for water <br />Water Rate for used in its ice -making plant. BotiYen, Jr. (signed) <br />• City Auditor <br />Report re: The City Attorney submitted a report on the petition relative to the motion <br />TTBirth of a <br />Babyt't °d"ovie picture entitled "The Birth of a Baby", and stated that he was of the opinion that <br />the City could not prohibit the exhibition of any motion picture which has.been <br />approved in accordance with the general laws of the State of Virginia until after it <br />had established fair and impartial methods for passing upon the properiety of show- <br />ing motion pictures in this City. <br />Amendment to An ordinance entitled "AN ORDINANCE AIVIENDING THE 1938 ANNUAL LICFNSE TAX <br />License Tax <br />Ordinance ORDINANCE BY ADDING A NEW SECTION THERETO NUMBERED IND ENTITLED t106a. SAMPLES - <br />DISPLAY - PENALTY", was offered by Dr. Haden, seconded by Pair. Gleason, read. and <br />carried over to the next regular meeting for consideration. <br />Report re: The City Attorney's rebort relative to the recuest of Preddyts Funeral Home <br />deed to space <br />in Oakwood for deed to four spaces in Oakwood Cemetery, which was conveyed by the City to <br />Cemetery <br />jr,'illiam H. Allen on June 12, 1936, vas adopted and ordered filed with the minutes <br />of this meeting. <br />
