<br />the Council met in Special Session on this date with the following; members present:
<br />Mr. Gleason, Dr. Haden, Mr. Huff, fir. Jessup, and INFIr. Peyton
<br />A Committee, consisting of Rev. Robert F. Gibson, Messrs. E. A. Joachim, Sol
<br />Welfare Kaufman, Judge A. D. Dabney, and Mrs. D. York, addressed the Council in regard to
<br />Department ,
<br />an additional appropriation for the Welfare Department.
<br />On motion by Dr. Haden, seconded by Mr. Gleason, ttze following resolution was
<br />unanimously adopted:

<br />BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville that
<br />Appropriation u200.00 be and the same is hereby appropriated to the Welfare Department
<br />Welfare Dent.
<br />for groceries, etc., during the month of June, 1939.
<br />They further stated that for many years the portion of the road now desired to be
<br />closed has been unused, has grown up in trees and bushes, arid. -in places the cut
<br />through which it passes has been partially filled; that said Mrs. R. I. Gentry and
<br />P. H. Gentry, her husband, the hJisses Copps named above and said Red -Land Land Corp-
<br />oration and. Thomas S. Martin, Jr. are the only persons who are interested in or
<br />affected by the closing of the road in question. The written consent of said Mrs.
<br />R. '%u. Gentry, P. H. Gentry, and Thomas S. Partin, Jr., to the proposed -closing of
<br />said road was presented.
<br />On motion by Dr. Haden, seconded by jar. Peyton, the following resolution was
<br />unanimously adopted:

<br />The proposed annual City budget for the fiscal year ending August 3i, 191.0, and
<br />the proposed School budget for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1940, were presented,

<br />and on motion by Dr. Haden, seconded by Mr. Gleason, carried over to the regular
<br />meeting on June 19, 1939, for consideration; and a synopsis of same was ordered
<br />published as required by Section 17 of the City Charter, by the following recorded
<br />vote: Ayes: Mr. Gleason, Dr. Maden, ;fir. Huff, 11r. Jessup, and :�Tr. Peyton. Noes:

<br />COUNCIL CHAMBER, JUNE 5, 1939
<br />The Council met in regular session on this date with the following members
<br />present: Mr. Gleason, Dr. Haden, t.r. . Huff, and Mr. Peyton.
<br />Minutes of the Meetings of May 15, 1939, and May 30, 1939, were read 'and
<br />approved.
<br />Mr. R. Watson Sadler, as Attorney for Misses N. Imogene, Marjorie L., and Ann �
<br />E. Copps, together with W. Allan Perkins, Attorney for Red -Land Land Corporation,
<br />Portion of
<br />appeared before the meeting and on hehalf of the 'Misses Copps and Red -Land Land
<br />Nine Mile
<br />Circuit
<br />Corporation made application to have a portion of the old Hydraulic or Nine Mile
<br />Road closed
<br />Circuit Road closed. These attorneys stated that the portion of the road so desired
<br />to be closed was abandoned as a road in 1913 when the Hydraulic Road was relocated
<br />from Capt. H. C. Alichiets gate around Meadow Creek Hill by the Old Charlottesville
<br />Country Club to the entrance to the property of Mrs. R. M. Gentry and P. H. Gentry,
<br />her husband.
