L <br />A <br />interest and sinking fund on school bonds and 65V (sixty-five cents) for the maintenance <br />and operating of the City schools. <br />2. Tangible Personal Property. <br />Upon all tangible personal property as defined in Schedule B of the State Tax <br />Law, not exempt from taxation, there shall be a tax of $1.15 (one dollar and fifteen <br />cents) on every $100.00 assessed value thereof to pay the general operating expenses <br />of the City government and to pay the interest and sinking fund on the City debt <br />other than schools, and there shall be levied an additional tax on every $100.00 <br />assessed value thereof of 20¢ (twenty cents) to pay the interest and sinking fund <br />on school bonds and 65¢ (sixty-five cents) for the maintenance and operating of the <br />city schools. <br />3. Other Property. <br />Upon any property not included in the foregoing, which is not exempt from local <br />taxation, the tax shall be $1.15 (one dollar and fifteen cents).on every $100.00 <br />assessed value thereof to pay the general operating expenses of the City government <br />and the interest and sinking fund on the City debt other than schools and there <br />shall be levied an additional tax on every $100.00 assessed value thereof of 20¢ <br />(twenty cents) to pay the interest and sinking fund on school bonds and 65¢ (sixty-five <br />cents) for the maintenance and operating of the City schools. - <br />All ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed. <br />Adopted by the Council, August 15, 1932. <br />Ayes: Mr, Brown, Dr. Haden, Messrs. Joachim <br />and Watson. <br />Noes: None. <br />CTWA"erPr <br />ea en <br />AN ORDINANCE REPEALING AND REENACTING SECTION 276 OF THE <br />CITY CODE HEADED "VIOLATION OF THE SABBATH -- <br />HOW PUNISHED." <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville that Section 276 of the City <br />Code headed "Violation of the Sabbath --How Punished" be amended and reenacted so as to read as <br />f ollows : <br />Sec. 276 (A) VIOLATION OF THE SABBATH --HOW PUNISHED. <br />If a person on a Sunday be found laboring at any trade or calling, or employ <br />his apprentices or servants in labor or other business, except in household or <br />other work of necessity or charity, he shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor <br />and upon conviction thereof shall be fined not less than five dollars for each <br />offense. Every day any person or servant or apprentice is so employed shall con- <br />stitute a distinct offense and the court in which or the justice by whom any judg- <br />ment of conviction is rendered may require of the person so convicted a recognizance <br />in a penalty of not less than one hundred or more than five thousand dollars, with <br />or without security, conditioned that such person shall be of good behavior, and <br />especially to refrain from a repetition of such offense, for a period not exceeding <br />twelve months. This section shall not apply to furnaces, kilns, plants and other <br />business of like kind that may be necessary to be conducted on Sunday, nor to the <br />sale of gasoline, or any motor vehicle fuel, or any motor oil or oils. <br />This ordinance shall become effective and be in force from the date of its passage and <br />all ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict therewith are hereby repealed. <br />Adopted by the Council, August 15, 1932, <br />Ayes: Mr. Brown, Dr. Haden, Messrs. Joachim <br />and Watson. <br />Noes: None* <br />clerk en <br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 120 OF THE LICENSE TAX ORDINANCE/FOR THE YEAR 1932. <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville that Section 120 of an Ordi- <br />nance imposing taxes for license for the year 1932 which was enacted April 4th, 1932, and is <br />spread in Ordinance Book 1, Page 520, be and the same hereby is amended by adding the following <br />provision: <br />No tax or license shall be required of any business, trade or occu- <br />pation which is conducted solely for the purpose of charity or for some <br />purpose of a non-profit nature, provided however that the Commissioner <br />of the Revenue shall not exempt any such business, trade or occupation <br />until after the Council shall have passed upon the character of such <br />business,.trade or occupation. <br />This ordinance shall be in force and effect from the date of its passage, <br />Adopted by the Council, October 3, 1932, <br />Ayes: Mr. Fife, Dr. Haden, Messrs.
