Presidnet Signature. <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE TO PUNISH THE SALE OF SPIRITUOUS LIQUORS OR ANY MIXTURE, PREPARATION <br /> <br />OR LIQUID WILL PRODUCE INTOXICATION/ <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNICL OF THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE, that an ordinance <br /> <br />adopted October 10,1907 entitled an ordinance to punish the sale of spirituous liquors <br /> <br />or any mixture, preparation or liquid which will produce intoxication,be arlended and <br /> <br />re-enacted to read asfollows; <br /> <br />Whereas the people of the City of Charlottesville have voted against license <br /> <br />to sell liquor in said city, therefore BE IT ENACTED by the Council of the City of <br /> <br />Charlottesville that if any person, sells any wine,spirituous or malt liquors,or any <br /> <br />mixture thereof , or who shall sell any mixture, preparation or liquid that will produce <br /> <br />intoxication in the City of Charlottesville during the time that the action of the <br /> <br />people as stated above is effective under the Local Option law of the State, he shall <br /> <br />deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and shall be punished by a fine of not less than <br /> <br />twenty dollars ($20.) and in the discretion of the Court, by imprisonment not exceed <br /> <br />six months. <br /> <br />This ordinance shall be in force from its passage. <br /> <br />Presented March 16 1908. <br />Approved March 18 ,1908 Adopted March 12 1908. <br />Mayor Signature. Presidnet Signature. <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED BT THE COUNCIL OF CHARLOTTESVILLE, That section 50 of the License <br /> <br />Ordinance approved March 27,1907, be amended and re-enacted to read as follows; <br /> <br />On every license to an Industrial or Prudential Insurance Company doing business <br /> <br />in this city, or any person or firm acting as agent for such conpany, there shall <br /> <br />be a specific tax of thirty dollars ($30.) for each company represented. <br /> <br />The definition of an Industrial and Prudential Insurance Company in this section <br /> <br />shall be a company that writes small policy on lives, the premiums on which are <br /> <br />payable weekly. Any old line insurance conpany doing an industrial or prudential business shall <br /> <br />pay the foregoing license tax in addition to the license tax imposed upon it be section 51 of this ordinance. <br /> <br />Presented April 13,1908. Presidnet Signature. <br /> <br />Adopted April 9th,1908. <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED BT THE COUNCIL OF CHARLOTTESVILLE,That section 90 of the <br /> <br />License Ordinance ,approved March 27th,1907, be amended and re-enacted to read as follows; <br /> <br />On every Telegraph Company, agent or officer trereof, the tax shall be One Hundred <br /> <br />dollars($100.) for the privilege of carrying on telegraph business between this <br /> <br />and other points in the State of Virginia. But if there be more than one company <br /> <br />doing; business in the city the tax shall be sixty five dollars ($65.) each for such privilege. <br /> <br />Presented and approved April 20,1908.
