37 <br /> <br />AN ORDIANCE REGULATING THE SALE OF JAMAICA GINGER. <br /> <br />BE IT ORDAINED, BY THE COUNCIL OF CHARLOTTESVILLE, That an ordinance entitled <br /> <br />"AN ORDINANCE REGUALTING THE SALE OF JAMAICA GINGER", adopted April 8th,1909, <br /> <br />be amended and re-enacted to read as follows; <br /> <br />That it shall be unlawful for a druggist, or other retail merchant, to sell <br /> <br />within the jurisdictional limits of the City of Charlottesville any fluid Essence <br /> <br />of Jamaica Ginger, or fluid Extract of Jamaica Ginger, except on the prescription of <br /> <br />a licensed physician, which prescription shall not be refilled. Any citizen shall <br /> <br />have the privilege of applying for a prescription of this character to the City <br /> <br />Physician, who may provide it or not, as his judgement dictates; said prescription <br /> <br />shall be free of cost to such citizen and shall not be refilled. <br /> <br />Any person violating this ordinance shall be fined not less than $10. <br /> <br />Presented & approved May 17,1909. President Signature. <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE REGULATING THE USE OF THE FIRE PLUGS BY OTHER PERSONS <br /> <br />THAN THE SUPERINTENDENT OF WATER AND SEWERS OF HIS EMPLOYEES: That in all cases of the use <br /> <br />of fire plugs by other persons than employees of the water department, the persons <br /> <br />their action so using these plugs shall report to the superintendent of water the same day, <br /> <br />under a penalty of $5. for each failure to report. <br /> <br />Presented and approved May 17,1909. President Signature. <br /> <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE FIXING THE SALARY OF THE CITY TREASURER. <br /> <br />BY THE COUNCIL OF CHARLOTTESVILLE, That from and after the first <br /> <br />of January,1910, the treasurer shall be allowed two per centum for his services in <br /> <br />receiving and collecting the revenues amounting to one hundred thousand dollars or <br /> <br />less, and one per centum on all revenues in excess of one hundred thousand dollars; <br /> <br />but he shall not be allowed any compensation for disbursements. <br /> <br />The word "Revenue" shall be construed to mean only money arising from taxes licenses, <br /> <br />water and gas; that is to say, money arising from some ordinance of the council or <br /> <br />general law of the State to raise funds for the general benefit of the city. <br /> <br />In no case shall the treasurer be entitled to any compensation for receiving or <br /> <br />disbursing funds arising from the sale of bonds or the issuing of notes by the city <br /> <br />for any purpose. <br /> <br />Presented and approved May 17,1909.
