person shall have previously pur&aeed a scavenger ticket, as hereinafter provided,

<br />for the period during which the privy should have been cleaned.

<br /> Any resident of the City shall have the right to purchase in advance from the
<br />
<br />City Treasurer from time to time the scavenger tickets, in such form and for such
<br />
<br />price as shall be prescribed by the Street Committee and City Manager, and when
<br />
<br />such ticket shall be purchased the holder thereof shall be relieved for the period
<br />
<br />covered by such ticket from the duty of cleaning his privy, and the city shall
<br />
<br />perform such duty at such time and in such manner as in its discretion shall seem best.
<br />
<br />All ordinances in conflict with this ordinance are hereby repealed.

<br />A Resolution to indemnify the University of Virginia against possible loss in its
<br />
<br />undertaking to train 600 Motor Truck Drivers for the army.
<br />
<br />Resolved by the Common Council, the Board of Aldermen concurring,
<br />
<br />That in consideration of the financial benefits accruing to the city from
<br />
<br />the establishment at the University of Virginia of the proposed U. S. Training Camp
<br />
<br />for Motor Truck men for the Army, that the City of Charlottesville hereby guarantees
<br />
<br />to the Rector and Visitors of the University of Virginia to insure them afainst
<br />
<br />possible loss thrijugh any failure of the War Department to keep 500 men at the camp,
<br />
<br />a sum not to exceed $20,000. , it being understood that said loss shall be estimated
<br />
<br />at the rate of $1.50 per day per man for six months, for each man short of the quota
<br />
<br />or 500.

<br />A Resolution in re. constructing a concrete road on West Main Street from the end

<br />of the brick pavement to intersection of Rugby Road.

<br />Resolved, By the Common Council of Charlottesville, The Board of Aldermen
<br />
<br />concurring, That West Main Street from the west end of the present brick pavement
<br />
<br />to and including the intersection of Rugby Road, be improved by laying a concrete
<br />
<br />Pavement for the full width of the Roadway, and that the sum of $7,500. , or as much
<br />
<br />thereof as may be necessary be, and hereby is appropriated upon condition that the
<br />
<br />University of Virginia contribute the amount of $2,000. toward this improvement.
