AN ORDINANCE REGULATING THE USE OF CITY WATER, AND IMPOSING A PENALTY FOR VIOLATION THEREOF. <br /> <br />Whereas the City water supply has been diminishing very rapidly for some- <br /> <br />time past and has now reached such a low point that public health and safety deman that <br /> <br />it be most carefully conserved. <br /> <br />Now Therefore, Be it resolved by the Council of the City of Charlottesville, <br /> <br />Virginia that it- be and is unlawful for any person, firm or corporation to use any <br /> <br />City Water for washing automobiles or other vehicles; sprinkling lawns, Streets or <br /> <br />sidewalks, or to use City Water through hose connections except for building or <br /> <br />or construction purposes. It shall also be unlawful to willfully waste any City <br /> <br />water or to use any city water beyond what is actually needed for lawful purposes. <br /> <br />Any violation of this resolution shall be punished by a fine no- less than <br /> <br />$10.00. <br /> <br />This Ordiance shall be effective from its passage. <br /> <br />Adopted by the Council Oct. 15, 1923 <br />Ayes; Brown, Morris <br /> <br />THE NAME OF STREET NOW KNOWN AS MONTICELLO AVE14UE AND AVON STREET CHANGE TO AVON STREET. <br /> <br />Be it ordained by the Council of the City of Charlottesville that the <br /> <br />Street leading from East Main Street across the bridge over the C & 0 Railway to the <br /> <br />City Limits, the Northern part of which is now known as Monticello Avenue and the <br /> <br />Southern part of which is known as Avon Street shall hereafter be known as Avon Street. <br /> <br />Adopted by the Council December 3, 1923. <br />Ayes, Brown, Morris and Joachim, Noes. None <br /> <br />Clerk Signature <br />President Signature <br /> <br /> <br />AMENDING SECTION 279 OF THE CITY CODE. <br /> <br />Be it ordained by the Council of the City of Charlottesville that section <br /> <br />279 of the City Code entitled "False Fire Alarm" be amended and re-enacted so as to <br /> <br />read as follows: <br /> <br />"Any person who wantonly or without knowledge of the existance of a fire, <br /> <br />shall turn in or give a false alarm or attempt to turn in or give any false alarm to <br /> <br />the Fire Department or who in any way tampers with the fire alarm system shall be <br /> <br />fined not less than $100.00 or confined in Jail not less than 30 days or both." <br /> <br />Adopted by the Council January 21, 1924, <br />Ayes, Brown, Morris and Joachim, Noes.
