A vacant lot or tra,;t of land. <br />The owner of premises within each such class shall constitute a <br />water consumer for which a minimum charge will be made. One connection and one <br />meter will be allowed for one consumer as described above and only one water con- <br />sumer can be supplied through one connection or meter. <br />Adopted by the Council June 16, 1924, <br />Ayes Brown and Joachim, Noes None. <br />r, <br />• <br />(7 <br />J <br />V <br />AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING REGULATIONS GOVERNING THE CONSTRUCTION ALTERATION <br />EQUIPMENT, REPAIR OR REMOVAL OF BUILDINGS OR STRUCTURES: ELECTRIC WIRING, AUTO REPAIR <br />SHOPS, PUBLIC GARAGES, COND&4NA210I1 OF BUILDINGS AND DANGEROUS STRUCTURES, PENALTIES <br />J'OR VIOLATION AND TO BE KNOWN AS BUILMNG CODE. <br />Be it ordained by the Council of the City of Charlottesville, as follows: <br />Sec. 1. Definition of terms. <br />For the purpose of these regulations the following definitions, terms and <br />their applications shall be used and applied in the articles and sections embodied <br />herein, unless otherwise expressly stated. <br />ALLEY. Any right of way or easement used or laid out as a means of access <br />to or egress from two or more properties, whethertl'2e samebe open or not. <br />AREAWAY. An open sub -surface space adjacent to a building for lighting <br />purposes, or ventilating of basements. <br />ATTIC. A story situated wholly or partially within the roof, An attic, <br />when it is used for business, stores, etc., shall be considered a story. <br />BASEMENT, That portion of a bui ldine;, the top of thefloor of which Is <br />one foot or more, but not more than three quarters of height of said portion, be- <br />low the grade of the lowest adjacent curb. <br />SUB -BASEMENT. That portion of a building nett below the basement. <br />BAY WINDOW. A Projection beyond the wall of a building pierced by one <br />or more window openings, the entire weight of which is carred by the wall. <br />BEAM. A piece of timber, iron, concrete, stone, or other material placed <br />horizontally, or nearly so, to support a load over a space bolow. <br />BUILDING. For purposes relative to this code all buildings herein referred <br />to shall be within either of the following classes to -wit: <br />(1) Building, <br />(2) Altered building. <br />BUILDING. Any structure affording shelter, whether erected, conatruoted, <br />renovated, or remodeled. <br />I <br />
