AN ORDINANCE PROHIBITING THE OPERATION OF A GASOLINE OR OIL FILLING STATION FOR PUBLIC

<br />SERVICE WITHIIN FIVE HUNDERD FEET OF ANY HOSPITAL, SANITORIUM, CHURCH, PUBLIC SCHOOL, OR
<br />
<br />PUBLIC LIBRARY.
<br />
<br />BE IT ORDAINED, by the Council of the City of Charlottesville
<br />
<br />that it shall be unlawful for any person, firm, or corporation to operate a gasoline or
<br />
<br />oil filling station for public service within five hundred (500) feet of any hospital,
<br />
<br />sanitarium, church, public school, or public library, in the City of Charlottesville.
<br />
<br />This ordinance shall not apply to filling stations already in
<br />
<br />operation, or to any on Main Street, No additional filling station shall be operated
<br />
<br />on Main Street without special permit from the City Council.
<br />
<br />Any violation of this ordinance shall be punished by a fine of
<br />
<br />not less than ten dollars ($10.00) and each day such violation continues shall constitute
<br />
<br />a separate offense.

<br />AMENDING SECTION 71 ENTILTED "MERCHANTS" OF THE 1926 TAX ORDINANCE - AMOUNT OF

<br />MERCHANT'S LICENSE - TAX ON EACH SEPERATE PLACE OF BUSINESS CONDUCTED.
<br />
<br />BE IT ORDAINED, by the Council of the City of Charlottesville that
<br />
<br />Section 71, entitled "Merchants" of the 1926 Tax Ordinance, enacted April 21, 1926, be
<br />
<br />amended and reenacted so as to read as follows:
<br />
<br />Every person, firm or corporation conducting a mercantile business
<br />
<br />shill, for each separate place of business conducted in the City of Charlottesville,
<br />
<br />pay a license tax as follows:
<br />If the amount of purchases shall not exceed $1,000.00 the tax shall be
<br />$10.00
<br />If the amount of purchase shall not exceed $2,000.00 the tax shall
<br />$18.00
<br />If the amount of purchases shall not exceed $3,000.00 the tax shall
<br />be $25.00.
<br />And on all purchases over $3,000.00 and less than $10, 000.00, the tax
<br />
<br />shall be seventy cents (70¢) on the $100.00 in excess of $3,000.00
<br />
<br />On all purchases over $10,000.00 and less than $20,000.00, the tax
<br />
<br />shall be sixty cents (60¢) on the $100.00 in excess of $10,000.00
<br />
<br />On all purchases over $20,000.00 and less than $30, 000.00, the tax
<br />
<br />shall be fifty cents (50¢) on the $100.00 in excess of $20,000.00
<br />
<br />On all purchases over $30,000.00 and less than $40,000.00 the tax shall be
<br />
<br />forty cents (40¢) on the $100.00 in excess of $30,000.00.
<br />
<br />On all purchases over $40,000.00 and less than $50,000.00 the tax Shall
<br />
<br />be thirty cents (30¢) on the $100.00 in excess of $40,000.00
<br />
<br />On all purchases in excess of $50,000.00, the tax shall be ten cents
<br />
<br />(10 ¢) on the $100.00.
