<br />shall so report. And it shall be the duty, of the Mayor, im-
<br />mediately upon receipt of such report, to detail a policeman,
<br />and cause such delinquent to be summoned before the Civil
<br />and Police Justice to show cause why they should not be
<br />fined under provisions of this ordinance. But the special
<br />detail of a policeman shall not relieve the general force from
<br />the general duty of enforcing this or any other ordinance;
<br />and the Mayor shall especially see that all the requirements
<br />of this ordinance are enforced, and to this end he shall, at
<br />least once a month, especially require the police force to in-
<br />vestigate violations of this ordinance.
<br />(f) The Commissioner of the Revenue shall receive for
<br />each license issued by him a fee of fifty cents, to be paid by
<br />the party to whom said license is issued.
<br />(g) It shall be the duty of the Commissioner of the
<br />Revenue to keep a book, in which he shall classify all the
<br />branches of business and occupation upon which a license is
<br />imposed by this ordinance, and show the amount of assess-
<br />ment made upon each license, the name of the person assess-
<br />ed, and the period for which such license was issued.
<br />On the first day of December, March, June and September
<br />of each year he shall deliver to the Finance Committee ex-
<br />tracts from said book showing the entries therein made and
<br />the total amount of liceanses collected during the preceding
<br />three months, prop classified. These extracts shall be
<br />certified under oath.
<br />(h) The taxes on licenses accruing under the provisions
<br />of this ordinance shall be due and payable, except where
<br />otherwise herein provided, on or before the first day of May,
<br />1934, and shall be paid by the person against whom assessed
<br />to the Treasurer of the city in his office on or before the
<br />first day of May.
<br />(i) All ordinances, or parts of ordinances, relating to
<br />licenses in conflict herewith are hereby repealed.

<br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDING AND REENACTING SECTION 489 (69) OF THE CITY CODE
<br />OF 19320 ENTITLED MAYOR AND CHIEF OF POLICE TO HAVE GENERAL SUPERVISION
<br />OVER TRAFFIC.
<br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville that Section 489 (69) of
<br />the City Code of 1932, be amended and reenacted so as to read as follows:
<br />SECTION 489 (69). Mayor and Chief of Police to have general supervision over Traffic
<br />Traffic Signs.
<br />The Mayor and Chief of Police shall have general supervision and control of the manage-
<br />ment and parking of vehicles in the interest of public safety, comfort and convenience
<br />not inconsistent with the provisions of this section or of Chapter 342 of the Acts of
<br />the General Assembly of Virginia, 1932, and any amendments thereto, cited as "The Motor
<br />Vehicle Code of Virginia." Persoms using the sidewalks and streets of the City shall
<br />comply at all times and places with any direction by voice, hand, whistle, sign or
<br />signal from any member of the police force as to the starting, stopping, slowing, parking,
<br />approaching or department from any place; also as to the manner of taking up or setting
<br />down passengers, and in loading and unloading vehicles.
<br />The Mayor and Chief of Police shall have authority to place upon the sidewalks and streets
<br />of the City such signs, signals and other devices for handling traffic as they may deem
<br />necessary, provided the same are placed in accordance with Traffic Regulations which have
<br />been approved by the Council.
<br />It shall be unlawful for any person to violate any such Traffic Regulation, and any person
<br />violating any of the provisions of tble subsection shall be liable to a fine of not less
<br />than $2.50 nor more than $25.00.
<br />This ordinance shall be in force and effect from its passage, and all ordinances, or parts
<br />of ordinances, in conflict herewith, are hereby repealed*
