<br />AN ORDINAN CE AMENDING AND RE-ENACTING SECTION 494 (13) (A) ENTITLED"WHAT BUILDINGS REQUIRED
<br />TO BE FIREPROOF" OF THE CODE OF 1932.
<br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville that Section 494 (13) (A) of the Code of
<br />1932 entitled "V9hat Buildings Required to be Fireproof" be amended and re*anabtdd so as to read as follows:
<br />SEC. 494 (13) (B). WHAT BUILDINGS REQUIRED TO BE FIREPROOF.
<br />(a) All buildings erected, altered or remodeled, for the use of a coffee roaster, bakery, dry
<br />cleaning establishment, laundries, theatres, schools if over one story and basement in height, hotels
<br />if over two stories and basement in height, shall be of fireproof construction.
<br />(b) All buildings aver 55 ft. or four stories in height shall be of fire proof construction,
<br />except that this shall not apply to domes, towers, or spires of churches or of other public buildings.
<br />(c) All buildings designed for use as tenements and apartments if containing more than five
<br />apartments and if more than two stories and basement in height.
<br />(d) All buildings erected, altered or remodeled, for the use of a public garage shall be of fire-
<br />proof construction v4th the exception of one-story public garages which conform to the following minimum
<br />requirements: A ceiling height of at least twelve (12) feet; a roof constructed of unprotected steel
<br />trusses or girders covered with a roof sheeting at least one and three quarters (1-3/4) inches thick
<br />with an incombustible roof covering; if of wooden truss or joist construction no timber less than two
<br />(2) inches in dimension shall be used and the ceiling shall be protected with metal or metal lath and
<br />cement plaster. In either case when the ceiling is protected as aforesaid, the roof sheeting shall be
<br />of not less than one (1) inch lumber with an incombustible covering; full height wood partitions will
<br />not be permitted, but any office enslosure shall be made of not less than 7/8" wainscoting to a height
<br />not exceeding three feet six inches; wood sash and plain glass may be used for the balance of the
<br />enclosure; stud partitions may be used provided they are covered on both sides with metal or metal lath
<br />and cement plaster.
<br />The foregoing restrictions and requirements in this sub -section shall apply to all buildings specified
<br />therein erected, altered or remodeled after the 15th day of July, 1932, but all buildings erected, altered,
<br />or remodeled prior to said date shall be altered or remodeled in accordance with such restrictions and
<br />building regulations as may be approved by the City Manager, provided that the same shall at least comply
<br />with the minimum requirements of the last regulations of the National Board of Fire Underwriters.

<br />AN ORDINANCE PROPOSING TO GRANT A MOTOR BUS TRANSPORTATION FRANCHISE ALONG AND OVER THE STREETS
<br />OF THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE.
<br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville that bilis for the franchise, privilege and
<br />right to use the streets of the City of Charlottesville for the operation of Motor Bus Transportation, shall
<br />be received in writing by the Council of the City of Charlottesville on the 5th day of December, at 3:00
<br />Otcloek P. M. This ordinance is enacted and advertized in accordance with Section 125 of the Constitution
<br />of the State of Virginia, Section 3016 and Sections 3018 to 3022, both inclusive, of the Code of Virginia,
<br />Section 33 of the Charter of the City of Charlottesville, and Section 23 of the City Code of 1932.
<br />The terms of said franchise which have been approved by the Mayor and Council shall conform to and consist
<br />of the following minimum requirements, conditions and agreements:
<br />(1) The route shall be the same as that now used by the Street Cars, except that the route on Rugby Road,
<br />from the present Street Car terminal, shall be extended along Rugby Road to Gordon Avenue, thence East
<br />along Gordon Avenue to 16th Street, thence North along 16th Street to Grady Avenue, thence :"gest along Grady
<br />Avenue to Rugby Road, thence South along Rugby road to Gordon Avenue, the same being indicated by blue line
<br />on the attached map of the City of Charlottesville. (See Map on page 125).
