SEC. 445. A. FOREMAN OF FIRE HOUSE, HIS DUTIES, ETC.
<br />The chief of the Fire Company shall designate one of the employees at the
<br />fire house as foreman in charge of the fire house; whose duty it shall be to see
<br />that the sundry apparatus is kept in good condition and ready at any and all times
<br />to respond to a call; and to see that the apparatus are '_sept in good condition
<br />and properly cared for at and after returning from a fire; that the hose is properly
<br />dried out; that the house is properly cared for; and perform such other duties as
<br />may be necessary to keep the fire house and apparatus in good condition.
<br />This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from the date of its passage, and

<br />all ordinances or parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed.

<br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDII:G AND REENACTING SECTION 495 (S) OF THE CITY CODE OF 1932,
<br />ENTITLED "C INDUSTRIAL DISTRICTS^ BY ADDING THERETO A NEIV SUBSECTION
<br />PROHIBITING DEAD STORAGE.
<br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville that Section 495 (g)
<br />of the City Code of 1932, entitled "C Industrial Districts" be amended and reenacted so
<br />as to read as follows:
<br />SEC. 495 (8) A. C INDUSTRIAL DIISTRICTS.
<br />(13) Celluloid or pyroxyline manufacture or processing; the manufacture of explosive
<br />or highly inflammable cellulose products or of acetylene gas on a commercial scale;
<br />manufacture of matches, fireworks or explosives; nitrating process; the loading of
<br />explosives or their storage in bulk.
<br />(14) Sulphurous, sulphuric, nitric, picric or hydrochloric or other corrosive or
<br />offensive acid manufacture, or their use or storage except on a limited scale as accessory
<br />to a permitted industry.
<br />(15) The dead storage, of articles or products, without adequate shelter and housing
<br />which have ceased to be useful or suitable for the purpose for which they were created
<br />or produced.
<br />'Within any C Industrial District, no lot, building or structure shall be
<br />used and no building or structure shall be erected which is intended or designed to
<br />be used, in whole or in part, for any of the following specified purposes;
<br />(1) Slaughter house, except for poultry and incidental to a retail store,
<br />stockyard; starch, glucose or dextrine manufacture; horn processing; shell processing;
<br />except from cleaned shells; the curing, tanning or dressing of raw or green salted
<br />hides or skins.
<br />(2) Fertilizer manufacture from organic material, or the compounding of such
<br />fertilizer on a commercial scale; the preparation on other than an incidental scale
<br />of exterminators, disinfectants, cattle dips, insecticides or serums.
<br />(3) Bleaching powder, ammonia or chlorine manufacture.
<br />(4) Coal tar manufacture or tar distillation extent as by-products or as
<br />incidental to the manufacture of gas for public distribution; the manufacture of
<br />tar or asphalt roofing or water -proofing; the distillation of wood or bone.
<br />(5) Emory cloth or sand paper manufacture.
<br />(6) Manufacture of lime, gypsum, plaster of Paris, lithopone, linseed oil,
<br />linoleum, oiled cloth or oiled clothing, or the impregnation of inflammable fabrics
<br />by oxidizing oils.
<br />(7) Turpentine, varnish or shellac manufacturing or refinishing.
<br />(g) Gas storage in quantity exceeding 500,000 cubic feet within 100 feet of any
<br />party lot line; or in quantity exceeding 200 cubic feet if the pressure is greater than
<br />100 pounds per square inch, within 50 feet of any party line.

<br />(9) Oil storage in quantity exceeding 10,000 gallons above the ground within 50
<br />feet of any party lot line, or in quantity exceeding 100,000 gallons above the ground
<br />unless containers are surrounded by adequate moats.
<br />(10) Soap, soda ash, caustic soda or washing compound manufacture.
<br />(11) Smelting of copper, tin, zinc, or aluminum ores.
<br />(12) Fat rendering; the preparation or refining of tallow, grease or lard; the
<br />manufacture of candles from animal fats; glue or size manufacture or processes involving

<br />recovery from fish or animal offal; potash manufacture, petroleum refining; and creosote
<br />manufacture or treatment.
