SEC. 316. Prisoners - Limitation of Confinement For Failure to Pay Fine <br />And Costs. <br />If any person is confined in jail until his fine and costs, or costs where <br />there is no fine, are paid, such confinement shall not exceed five days when <br />the fine and costs, or costs where there is no fine, are less than $5.00; when <br />less than $10.00 it shall not exceed ten days; when less than $25.00 it shall <br />not exceed fifteen days; when less than $50.00 it shall not exceed thirty days, <br />and in no case shall the confinement exceed two months. <br />This ordinance shall be in full force from its passage, and all ordinances or <br />parts of ordinances in conflict herewith are hereby repealed. <br />Adopted by the Council April 5, 1943 <br />Ayes: Mr. Adams, Mr. Gleason, <br />Mr. Huff, and Mr. Morris. <br />Nc <br />r <br />313 <br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE LICENSE TAX ORDINANCE BY ADDING <br />A NEW SECTION THERETO ENTITLED 1119a. AUTOMOBILE BUYING". <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville that an ordinance <br />adopted by the said Council on the 15th day of March, 191r3 entitled "AN ORDINANCE <br />FOR IMPOSING AND COLLECTING LICENSES AND TAXES FOR THE EXERCISE OF CERTAIN PRIVILEGES <br />WITHIN THE CITY OF CHARLOTTESVILLE FOR T:TLVE MONTHS COMMENCING THE FIRST DAY OF <br />MAY, 19432 AND ENDING THE THIRTIETH DAY OF APRIL, 191.4", be and the same is hereby <br />amended by adding thereto a new section to be known as Section 19a relating to the <br />buying of motor vehicles in the City of Charlottesville reading as follows: <br />19a. Automobile Buying. <br />Every person, firm or corporation, resident or non-resident who <br />' shall engage in the business of buying motor vehicles in the City of <br />Charlottesville and who does not pay a City merchantts license in <br />connection with said business, shall, for the privilege of doing such <br />business, pay an annual license tax of $150.00. <br />This ordinance shall be enforced from its passage. <br />Adopted by the Council April 19, 1943 <br />Ayes: Mr. Adams, Mr. Gleason, Mr. Morris, <br />and Mr. Nash. <br />Noe one. <br />President <br />C� <br />AN ORDINANCE AMENDING AND REENACTING SECTION 162 OF THE <br />CITY CODE OF 1932 RELATING TO USE OF SIDEWALKS. <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville that Section 162 <br />of the City Code of 1932 be, and the same is amended and reenacted so as to read as <br />follows: <br />SECTION 162. Trucks, Etc. on Sidewalks. <br />No person shall use any truck, wheelbarrow, bicycle or handcart on any <br />sidewalk, except in receiving or delivering goods across the same. Any one <br />violating this section shall be fined $2.00. <br />But this section and the preceding section shall not be construed to <br />prohibit the use of bicycle racks on the sidewalks outside any place of <br />' <br />business --provided the Chief of Police approves the location thereof, and <br />the person, firm or corporation maintaining such rack executes such agree- <br />ments indemnifying the City against any claim on account of such use of the <br />sidewalk, and provided further that such racks shall be removed from the <br />sidewalk during the hours such place of business is closed. <br />Adopted by the Council May 17, 1943 <br />Ayes: Mr. Adams, Mr. Gleason, Mr. Huff, <br />and Mr. Morris. <br />Noas :ANone. <br />�'- President <br />
