AN ORDINANCE AMENDING AND REENACTING SECTION 336 OF THE CITY CODE <br />OF 1932 AS HERETOFORE AMENDED WITH REFERENCE TO WATER - APPLICATION <br />FOR HOW I- ADE - DEPOSIT - CONNECTION CHARGE - TEMPORARY CONNECTION <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville that Section 336 <br />of the City Code of 1932 be and the same is hereby amended and reenacted to read <br />as follows: <br />BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of Charlottesville that Section 352 <br />of the City Code of 1932 be and the same is hereby amended and reenacted as follows: <br />SEC. 352 DEPOSIT BY GAS CONSUMERS - WHEN GAS BILLS ARE PAYABLE - SERVICE <br />CHARGE FOR GAS CONNECTION <br />(a) DEPOSIT: Any person, firm, or corporation which shall hereafter begin <br />the use of City gas, shall before connection is made and meter placed <br />make a deposit according to the following schedule: <br />A consumer operating a hotel, restaurant, eating house, hot dog stand or <br />similar business, catering -to transients, $25.00; a consumer operating a <br />boarding house accommodating more than ten boarders, $10.00, all other <br />consumers, 65.00. <br />The deposit, or any part thereof, may at the option of the City, be <br />applied on any obligation the consumer may owe the City in connection <br />with City gas. Until the account of such consumer with the City shall <br />be closed out, said deposit shall be kept unimpaired by the consumer and <br />when the account is closed out, the balance, if any, shall be returned <br />to the consumer or his personal representative, or assigns. <br />(b) WHEN GAS IS CUT OFF: The gas furnished to any consumer shall be cut off <br />whenever any charge therefor remains unpaid beyond the last day allowed <br />for payment and when any consumer shall fail, after ten days1 notice, to <br />make good any impairment of the deposit hereinbefore provided for. <br />(c) CONNECTING CHARGE: For turning gas on again after it has been cut off <br />for non payment, there shall be a charge of $1.00 payable in advance. <br />(d) GAS BILLS PAYABLE: All gas bills for the preceding month are due and <br />payable on or before the fifteenth day after a statement is rendered, <br />and where such bills are not paid before the said fifteenth day the <br />service shall be discontinued. <br />(e) BILLS AVERAGED WHEN METER STOPS: If any gas meter shall fail to register, <br />the charge shall be the average reading for the three preceding months. <br />This ordinance shall be in full force and effect from the date of its passange; <br />and all ordinances and parts of ordinances in conflict therewith are hereby repealed. <br />r <br />Adopted by the Council February 21, 19" <br />Ayes: Mr. A ms Mr. Gleason, ff., <br />and PAr tson. Noes: No <br />President <br />321 <br />_SEC. 336 WATER - APPLICATION FOR HOW IAADE - DEPOSIT - CONNECTION CHARGE - <br />TEIAPORARY CONNECTION <br />Whenever any person, owning or leasing property along; the line of any <br />water main, shall desire the introduction of water into his premises, he <br />shall make written application therefor to the City Collector on forms <br />prescribed by him and approved by the City Manager, which shall set forth <br />the name of the applicant, the location and description of the property into <br />which the water is to be introduced and the purpose for which the water is <br />to be used. For Domestic Consumers such application shall be accompanied by <br />' <br />a deposit of $3.00, if the water is furnished within the City Limits and <br />$5,00 if the water is furnished outside the City Limits. For Commercial <br />Consumers the deposit shall be based upon the estimated consumption but shall <br />not exceed $25.00. The City Manager shall thereupon cause to be constructed, <br />at the expense of the City, a service pipe leading from the said water main to <br />the curb and install a water meter thereon unless the connection has been <br />previously made. For turning water on again after it has been cut-off for <br />non -payment, there shall be a charge of $1.00 payable in advance.
